JUSTICE & MERCY FOR SANUSI LAMIDO SANUSI II AT LAST!

The reinstalled Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II has travailed in spite of orchestrated political/traditional debacles of over four years!

Having confronted President Goodluck Jonathan as Central Bank Governor over 

a missing tranche of USD$20 billions  which could not be traced to the Apex institution he was sacked due to his outspoken criticism of the government's financial practices and his allegations of missing oil revenue amounting to billions of dollars. His removal was seen as a response to his whistleblowing activities and his clashes with the government.

However his popularity did not diminsh as the people chose him to take over the vacant stool of Emir until the State Governor deposed him and sent him packing in 2020!

After Four Years of exile God's Mercy & Justice prevailed when he triumphantly drove into Kano City triumphantly with pomp and pageantry to occupy his rightful place as the authentic Emir of the ancient City of Kano on 23 May 2024 accompanied by  new Governor, his Deputy and Speaker of State House of Assembly!

HISTORICAL EXCERPTS FROM WIKIPEDIA :

Muhammadu Sanusi II, CON spent most of his reign advocating for cultural reform in Northern Nigeria. In 2020, he was dethroned by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and was succeeded by his cousin Aminu Ado Bayero. On 23 May 2024, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reinstated him to the throne making him the 16th Fulani emir of Kano.

Prior to his accession, Sanusi was an Islamic intellectual, academic, political economist and banker. He served as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria from 2009 to 2014, ushering in banking reforms until his suspension after he brought to light the $20 billion oil scandal.

Family

Sanusi was born on 31 July 1961 in Kano to a ruling class Fulani family of the Sullubawa clan. He grew up in the palace of his great-uncle Ado Bayero, who reigned for over five decades. His father, Aminu Sanusi, was a prince and diplomat who served as the ambassador to Belgium, China and Canada, and later permanent secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was also the Chiroma of Kano and son of Muhammadu Sanusi I, who was the 11th Fulani Emir of Kano from 1953 to 1963, when he was deposed by his cousin Sir Ahmadu Bello.

Banking

In 1985, Sanusi began his banking career when he was hired by Icon Limited (a subsidiary of Barings Bank and Morgan Guaranty Trust) – as a merchant banker before later becoming head of financial services and manager of the office in Kano. He left the bank in 1991, when he travelled to Sudan, to pursue studies in Arabic and Islamic studies at the International University of Africa in Khartoum. In 1997, he returned to Nigeria and joined the United Bank for Africa working in the credit and risk management division – he rose through the ranks to the position of general manager. In 2005, Sanusi became a board member and executive director in charge of risk management at First Bank of Nigeria – Nigeria's oldest bank, and one of Africa's largest financial institutions. In January 2009, Sanusi became the chief executive officer, becoming the first northern Nigerian to head the bank.

On 1 June 2009, Sanusi was nominated as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria by President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua; his appointment was confirmed by the Nigerian Senate on 3 June 2009, during the global financial crisis. In Nigeria, the effect of the crisis took a hit at the economy and the banking system, with the stock market collapsing by nearly 70%. It was amidst this crisis that Sanusi led the central bank in rescuing top tier banks with over ₦600 billion of public money, dismissing and imprisoning chief executives who had mismanaged customer deposits – and strictly dealing with banks found responsible for financial crimes. Sanusi attributed the crash in the capital markets to "financial illiteracy" on the part of Nigerian investors. He also introduced a consolidation process which reduced the number of Nigerian banks through merger and acquisitions, in a bid to make them stronger and more accountable to depositors. He also led efforts in increasing the level of investment in infrastructure and support for small and medium enterprises.

Sanusi's tenure initiated several extensive banking reforms termed the "Sanusi Tsunami". The reforms were built around four pillars: enhancing the quality of banks, establishing financial stability, enabling healthy financial sector evolution and ensuring the financial sector contributes to the real economy. Sanusi developed the cashless policy – whereby financial transactions are not conducted with money in the form of physical banknotes or coins, but rather through the transfer of digital information (usually an electronic representation of money) between the transacting parties; he also introduced and supported the establishment of Islamic banking in Nigeria, a move which was criticized by the Christian Association of Nigeria. He also clashed with the National Assembly, over its budgetary spending of 25% of all government revenue; and rejected the International Monetary Fund insistence for currency devaluation. He also advised the government on the removal of the fuel subsidy, which he argued engendered a culture of high level corruption and economic inefficiency – the removal of the subsidy was unpopular and led to the Occupy Nigeria movement, which called for his resignation.

His reforms received both criticism and appraisal from the industry. The Banker magazine recognised him as the 2010 Central Bank Governor of the Year, for his reforms and leading a radical anti-corruption campaign in the sector – the first of its kind during the financial crisis. Sanusi is widely recognized for pacifying the overtly corrupt banking industry and his contribution to a risk management culture in Nigerian banking. Sanusi has spoken at a number of international events including the 2013 World Economic Forum. In December 2013, Sanusi in a leaked letter to President Goodluck Jonathan revealed that the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) failed to remit US$48.9 billion of government oil revenue to the central bank – the NNPC has a history of financial irregularities and oversees the corrupt petroleum industry in Nigeria. In February 2014, after a series of public investigations and raising the alarm on the US$20 billion NNPC scandal, Sanusi was suspended as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria by President Goodluck Jonathan. In April 2014, he won a court case against the federal government, after he was detained and his international passport confiscated by the State Security Service.

NOW THAT THIS CHILD OF PROVIDENCE IS BACK ON THE THRONE OF HIS FOREFATHERS......

"IT IS EASIER FOR A CAMEL TO PASS THROUGH THE NEEDLE 'S EYE....."

It has always been the norm in Nigeria for the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer whether in a military or civilian government! But the baffling aspect to the loop sidedness of that scenario is that those rich would never share the illicit acquisition with the drawers of water and hewers of wood of the society from which the magnanimous loot was acquired!

The following biblical innuendo should lend credence to the preceding narrative:

THE POOR MAN'S EWE LAMB FOR SUPPER!

2 Samuel 12:1-7

[1]And the LORD sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.

[2]The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds:

[3]But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter.

[4]And there came a traveler unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man's lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.

[5]And David's anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die:

[6]And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.

Plan to spend N20 Trillion Pension Fund of Hardworking Nigerians, Atiku tells Tinubu

According to Edun, the government is focused on tapping into domestic financial resources, particularly pension and life insurance funds, to leverage local funds for national growth. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has raised some concerns about President Bola Tinubu administration's plan to tamper with the N20 trillion pension funds to finance critical infrastructure projects across the country.

The Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, on Tuesday, after the Federal Executive Council (FEC), announced that the government had unveiled a strategic plan to harness the N20 trillion pension fund and other locally available resources for infrastructure development in Nigeria.

According to Edun, the government is focused on tapping into domestic financial resources, particularly pension and life insurance funds, to leverage local funds for national growth. He added that it was a significant step towards driving economic progress and addressing critical infrastructure needs.

Reacting to the statement, Atiku, a former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), described the news as disturbing. He said the move must be halted immediately. He insisted that it was a misguided initiative that could lead to disastrous consequences on the lives of Nigeria’s hard-working men and women who toiled and saved and now survive on their pensions after their retirement from service.

Atiku who took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to voice his concerns, wrote: "My attention is drawn to a disturbing disclosure by the Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, as he addressed State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, 14 May. 

"There is, according to the Minister, a move by the Federal Government to rev up economic growth by unlocking N20 trillion from the nation’s pension funds and other funds to finance critical infrastructure projects across the country. The Minister has indicated that although "the initiative is expected to attract foreign investment interest over time", domestic savings are his ‘immediate focus’ for now.

"He provided no useful details, such as the percentage of the funds to be mopped up from the Pension Funds, for example. Even at that, this move must be halted immediately! It is a misguided initiative that could lead to disastrous consequences on the lives of Nigeria’s hardworking men and women who toiled and saved and who now survive on their pensions having retired from service.

"It is another attempt to perpetrate illegality by the Federal Government. The government must be cautioned to act strictly within the provisions of the Pension Reform Act of 2014 (PRA 2014), along with the revised Regulation on Investment of Pension Assets issued by the National Pension Commission (PenCom)."

He warned the government not to act contrary to the provisions of the extant regulation on investment limits to wit: "Pension Funds can invest no more than 5% of total pension funds’ assets in infrastructure investments. I note that as of December 2023, total pension funds assets were approximately N18 Trillion, of which 75% of these are investments in FGN Securities". He said, “There is no free Pension Fund that is more than 5% of the total value of the nation’s pension fund for Mr Edun to fiddle with.

“There are no easy ways for Mr Edun to address the challenges of funding infrastructure development in Nigeria. He can’t cut corners. He must introduce the necessary reforms to restore investor confidence in the Nigerian economy and to leverage private resources, skills, and technology.”

BEFORE TINUBU - THERE WAS BUHARI!!

The quest to raise money by hook or Crook is a Continuum in APC government from 2015 to 2024! After exhausting paper money printing through WAYS AND MEANS option, Buhari visited all DORMANT ACCOUNTS in the various Commercial Banks to mop up all idle monies including those of DEAD CUSTOMERS to pay multiple DEBTS!

 MUST IT BE THE RICH ALL THE TIME?

And whereas they all have monies illicitly raked from the system and stashed away in foreign accounts in Panama, Bahamas, USA, Britain etc.

Was it not high time they repented and for once support the clarion call for ONE HOUSE PARLIAMENTARY SYSTEM FOR GRASS ROOTS POLITICS which would enable the POOR CITIZENS TO GOVERN THEIR COUNTRY WITH THE PRIME MINISTER OF THEIR CHOICE TO THE SHAME OF THE MONEY BAGS?

Although Edun recanted the unpopular, unthoughtful and selfish Pensions Fund Barefaced Robbery, he should go a step further to apologize to the over 133 multi- dimensional poor masses and confess the failure of the "KALOKALO" (money gulping) Presidential System!

It is never too late to repent because The Almighty God does not want the death of sinners!

BOLA TINUBU SHOULD NOT PATRONIZE SUPERSTITIOUS "MADARIKAN"!!!

In African mythology especially the Yoruba land it is strongly believed that when a person was inadvertently declared dead but turned out to be alive, his/her life tenure would automatically elongate to very ripe old age!

This unholy superstitious belief is termed MADARIKAN" (meaning that death should not be a presumptuous verdict on persons)!

"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment." (Hebrews. 9:27). 

Before elevation to the position of Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu visited France, Britain, and many other countries for medical treatment and on all those occasions, he was rumoured to have died only for him to resurface alive!

Now that he is in charge, he does not need "MADARIKAN" to stay in office! Sickness is a natural occurrence to human beings and all he needs to do whenever he is sick is to handover to his vice president and proceed for good treatment abroad in one piece!

His predecessor in office who spent several months in various hospitals abroad with TAX PAYERS FUNDS, enjoyed TWO TERMS OF OFFICE (2015-2023), and eventually retired to his Farm in Daura, was proclaimed DEAD severally while in office! It is customary for many affluent citizens who would rather live to enjoy their wealth for a very long time to orchestrate news of their demise, create an atmosphere of lamentation of their sudden exit only for the same bad news to be reversed after a few days!

After a two-week absence from the country, President Bola Tinubu returned to Abuja early Wednesday, where he was greeted by top government officials. 

Tinubu’s diplomatic journey commenced with an official visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands on April 23, at the invitation of Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

During his time in the Netherlands, Tinubu held discussions with prominent Dutch officials, including separate meetings with King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima. Additionally, he participated in the Nigerian-Dutch Business and Investment Forum.

Following his engagements in the Netherlands, the President attended a special World Economic Forum meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from April 28 to 29. The forum, themed “Global Collaboration, Growth, and Energy for Development,” convened leaders from various sectors to discuss global development strategies.

HOWEVER, AFTER THE CONCLUSION OF THE SUMMIT ON APRIL 29TH, THE PRESIDENT'S WHEREABOUTS REMAINED UNDISCLOSED, WITH THE PRESIDENCY PROVIDING NO INFORMATION WHILE SPECULATION AROSE REGARDING A POTENTIAL PRIVATE VISIT TO EUROPE FOLLOWING HIS TIME IN SAUDI ARABIA.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed Tinubu’s return to the country.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, along with his aides, will return to Nigeria tomorrow from Europe,” Onanuga wrote. It would be recalled that former Vice President and PDP candidate in the last presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, had descended on Tinubu, whom he accused of globetrotting in search of foreign direct investments.

He also dismissed the presidency’s claims of having secured billions of dollars in investment from various companies, when nothing was allegedly forthcoming.

Atiku had said, “Rather, all manufacturing firms have been posting heavy losses while some are exiting due to his poorly implemented exchange rate unification policy, with even Aliko Dangote describing it as a huge mess at the recent annual general meeting of Dangote Sugar Refinery.

“The IMF in its latest report stated that Nigeria will by the end of the year become the 4th largest economy in Africa behind South Africa, Egypt and Algeria, a disgraceful development for a nation which was the largest in Africa by a mile when the PDP left the stage in 2015.

“Investors are seeing how local businesses are being treated and will not come to a place where their investments will not be protected. In saner climes, businesses such as Landmark would have been given at least two years’ notice in order for effective planning. But Tinubu’s eagerness to satisfy his business partners impaired his ability to coordinate the project properly.”

The presidency, which accused Atiku of distortion of facts to hoodwink the public, had said the Tinubu administration, within its first year, had attracted over $20 billion into the economy, in addition to securing over $14 billion in new investments from Indian business leaders, when Tinubu was in New Delhi, India, for G20 Summit last year.

It claimed that a substantial part of this sum was already in the country.

But Onanuga stated, “In an unmistakable vote of confidence in the economic reforms being executed by the Tinubu administration, foreign investment in Nigeria’s stock market has ballooned, from N18.12 billion in Q1 2023 to N93.37 billion in Q1 2024, an increase of 415 percent.

“The last time Nigeria saw such level of investment was in the first quarter of 2019, when N97.6 billion was invested. The market, since Tinubu came to power, has broken records and created more wealth for the investors.

“During President Tinubu’s recent trip to The Netherlands, the Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, announced a fresh $250 million investment by Dutch businesses in Nigeria.”

Onanuga had asserted on top of claim  that different sectors of the economy, notably telecoms, manufacturing, solid minerals, oil and gas, e-commerce, and fintech, had been attracting new Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) from discerning investors, who were convinced that Nigeria was a good market for bountiful returns.

THE PRESIDENT DID NOT DIE AFTERALL - HE IS PRESIDING OVER NIGERIA FROM ASO ROCK - NOT FROM THE MOON!

NOW THAT TINUBU IS BACK TO NIGERIA AFTER TWO WEEKS OF "WORK & REST," HE SHOULD FOCUS ON TRANSFORMING THE NATION THROUGH POPULAR REFERENDUM, TO "ONE HOUSE PARLIAMENT" TO OVERCOME SECURITY CHALLENGES OF CRIMES AND CRIMINALITIES PERMANENTLY! 

THE PRESIDENTIAL SYSTEM IS AN ABYSMAL FAILURE BECAUSE IT HAS NEVER PUT FOOD ON THE CITIZENS' TABLE! BUT THE POLITICIANS GET RICHER BY THE DAY THROUGH BUDGET PADDINGS, DUBIOUS/INFLATED CONTRACTS, DISTRIBUTION OF PALLIATIVES ETC.!

Thus saith the Lord, "If My Son Tinubu restitutes and transits Nigeria into ONE PARLIAMENT NATION, I WILL remove his health afflictions, forgive his sins and grant him a long and peaceful life as REWARD! AMEN!

The current All Progressives Congress (APC) ruling Party’s administration is very close to 365 days in office.

When Noble Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka was requested by Media Reporters some three months ago to access President Bola Tinubu's performances he said it was too early! The question is how long does it take for a government to hit the ground and run with articulate ideas if those in the saddle were actually ready and prepared for the job?

While picking his cabinet and other political appointees, the man surrounded himself with Yesterday Paddies whom he boasted were "tried and tested" just as his predecessor Baba Buhari worked with his kinsmen in spite of massive criticism and public outcry against nepotism, partialism, tribalism, favoritism etc.!

During the campaign period, they were leached to him to answer all hard/tricky media questions at Chattam House London and also locally by the Nigerian Press during political debates in his desperation to clinch the Aso Rock Ticket!

THE PRESIDENT AND HIS YESTERDAY APPOINTEES CAN NO LONGER PROFFER SOLUTIONS TO SECURITY AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC ISSUES DUE TO ANALOGUE IDEAS!

1. They told him to remove petrol subsidy on 29th May 2023 day of inauguration and he did.

2. He was told to merge the exchange rate - official and parallel market.

3. He was told to float the naira.

Corruption, self-interest, and fraudulent activity will always be an enemy, but when you bend that curve, you will receive the benefit. The nation will receive the benefit”.

He claimed to have deployed technology to enhance the revenue base of Lagos State as Governor, through collection and utilization of essential data, for an efficient tax system for the state.

 “When I was governor of Lagos State, I faced challenges. I started with N600 million and ended up with over N8 billion. And right now, they are targeting a trillion naira with the use of technology in the state. There is no other shortcut. We must invest in technology. We must focus, be diligent, and work hard”.

Bill Gates informed the President of a one-identity technological platform that could integrate variegated data, and expatiated on the centrality of data harmonization to planning, security, and tax efficiency.

“We are working with Mr. Wale Edun, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, on digitization. Before you came into office, there were a few things attempted in identity management. But they have been very scattered. There have been multiple identification systems.

“Now, there is a plan to take that technology called MOSIP and use it for this identification platform so that people can get digital benefits. We are providing support for that, and we can provide more support.

“With MOSIP ID, there is potential application in all government payment programmes. It helps with payment efficiency and bank accounts, and eventually, when everyone is using that, it makes tax collection easier. That benefit will take a few years. However, there will be more bank accounts, more financial inclusion, and effective government payment programmes,” Mr. Bill Gates said. He also said that Nigeria has the capacity to manage this system and related-technological systems as the nation brims with talented youths.

“The last time I went to the Microsoft office in Lagos, I saw the amazing work that they were doing and how they were growing their operations. So, you have a lot of Nigerian talents to manage these systems,” he said. The businessman also spoke about some high-yield seeds and a variety of crops with the potential for improved productivity and nutrition in all regions of the country.

He disclosed that countries like the United States and Brazil had been using these seeds which had been tested and certified as safe.

“There is no safety issue with these seeds. Supporting the Minister of Agriculture’s effort in this regard is something that we feel is important and worth supporting,” Mr. Gates added.

Responding to Gates’ submission, President Tinubu said: “We will look at this and work on it further. I am proud of Nigeria’s youths. They are very excited and creative with technology. They encourage us as we continue to press our reform efforts forward for their future prosperity. This is Nigeria’s time to become what it ought to be.”
