PRESIDENT BUHARI SHOULD EMULATE AMERICAN WAR VETERAN PRESIDENTS!

The United States did not just attain its enviable position as the best democracy, most economically and militarily powerful global nation on a platter of gold but through years of positive determination of and by “War Veteran Presidents”, who were prepared to build NATIONAL INSTITUTIONS AND NOT PERSONALITIES IN THE PAST 243 YEARS, from July 4, 1776, Declaration of American Independence to date!

Those Commanders-in-Chief and their cabinet troop also detested CORRUPTION like plague or leprosy and never hesitated to punish culpability according to American LAW, which is no respecter of any person or persons, including serving or retired presidents!

AMERICAN PRESIDENTS SCORECARD!

Most American Presidents were war veterans! Out of 45 Presidents, 31 actually served both in the military and also participated during several wars – French and Indian War, American Revolution, Creek War, the War of 1812, etc. Presidents Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard M. Nixon, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and George Bush, all served during World War II, while Dwight D. Eisenhower served in both World War I and World War II, Abraham Lincoln led his country to win a bloody Civil War to overcome a moral, constitutional and political crisis during his tenure between March 1861 and his assassination in April 1856!
And they all brought to bear their wealth of disciplined experience to deliver socio-economic dividends to their vast population of 327.2 million (2018 figure), and thereby created a platform of mutual trust and bonding between government and its people.

Donald Trump’s “America First” doctrine was a product of the several years of the successive penchant of American Presidents to practice democracy in its true perspectives and protect the overall interests of all their citizens to the uttermost, wherever they were domicile globally! The American Government would promptly attend to “SOS Calls” and rescue its citizens from any part of the world without counting cost of men and materials!

Historians records of the 1812 war, reveal that the United States declared war on the United Kingdom, from June 1812 to February, 1815, for three main reasons precipitated through (1)Trade restriction introduced by Britain to impede American trade with France (a country with which Britain was at war), (2) Forced recruitment of alleged British deserters seamen on US Vessels into the Royal Navy and (3)The British military support for American Indians, who opposed America’s expansionist tendencies towards the Canadian territories!

CAN HISTORIANS SAY THE SAME OF NIGERIAN WAR VETERAN COMMANDERS-IN-CHIEF?

First on the role call was late Lt. General Aguiyi Ironsi, who introduced military autocracy which was a complete opposite of Nigeria’s Parliamentary system of government at Independence in 1960, on assumption of office as Head of State, following a coup de tat, masterminded by officers of the Igbo extraction on 15th June, 1966, with fatalities!

Second was Major General Yakubu Gowon, who was installed through a counter coup carried out by officers, mostly of the Northern extraction from 28th- 30th July 1966! Gowon was in office until 30th July, 1975 when he was ousted!

Third was Brigadier, later General Murtala Muhammed, who became the Head of State in the 1975 coup and within one year was assassinated!

Fourth was Lt General Olusegun Obasanjo, who benefitted from Murtala’s death in 1976 to become the military ruler. He handed over to a democratically elected President Shehu Shagari in 1979.

Fifth was Major General Muhammadu Buhari who fought on the Nigerian side of the BIAFRA WAR, and was ferried into the number one seat in 1983 by a retinue of infamous coup specialists who participated in almost all previous coups, namely: Ibrahim Babangida, Ibrahim Bako, Sani Abacha, ‘Tunde Idiagbon, David Mark, Aliyu Mohammed, Halilu Akilu, ‘Tunde Ogbeha, Sambo Dasuki etc!

Sixth was Major General Ibrahim Babangida, who overthrew Buhari in a palace coup in August 1985 and remained in power until 1993 when he was also forced to resign by his bosom conspirator, late General Sanni Abacha in August 1993, through a pseudo interim civilian transitional administration which lasted for only three months for him to eventually take over in November, 1993!
Seventh was General Abdusalami Abubakar, who took over the reign of power at the demise of Sanni Abacha in June 1998!

NIGERIA’S MILITARY RULERS SCORECARD!!

The military economic policy of almost 30 years was a total disaster! It was characterised by institutional corruption of the highest degree – especially during Babangida’s era when “the doctrine of cash settlement” was very prominent to keep him on seat in transition to democratic presidency! He annulled the results of elections of June 12 1993, Presidential elections, because it did not favour their candidate!
Having successfully deposed, General Muhammadu Buhari and Brigadier ‘Tunde Idiagbon, whom Nigerians believed would restore national confidence for an improved economy, Babangida exhibited gross incompetence through mismanagement of resources which led to institutional decay, increased poverty, with its ripple effect in crimes and insecurity

There was a reckless neglect of the non-oil agricultural sector/ natural mineral extraction for dependence on crude oil exports and importation of refined petroleum products and exotic food items through the private sector participation to the detriment of made-in-Nigeria products while huge chunk of foreign-exchange earnings was spent on debt servicing!

Under the watch of General Babangida (1985-1993), about USD$ 12 billion earned from an oil windfall during the Gulf War was reportedly mismanaged!

ABACHA WAS WORSE THAN BABANGIDA!

On the 28th May, 1999, successor to late General Sanni Abacha, Abdusalami Abubakar published in the Official Gazette a list of items worth over USD$1billion dollars seized from the family and top aides of the late military ruler which included:
About USD$800 million dollars in cash,
Estates in Nigeria and Holdings in Sierra Leonian Refineries. But that list was limited as several millions of US dollars had been further recovered by successive democratic administrations since 1999 to date. Presently efforts are being geared towards recovering a fresh USD$321 million dollars starched in the Island of Jersey and the United States by the Buhari Administration!

IF THE PEOPLE ARE SOVEREIGN IN THE NIGERIAN PROJECT FUNDAMENTAL QUESTIONS ON SECURITY MUST BE ANSWERED!

Every citizen has the constitutional right to complain against constituted authority if it derelicts on promises of social contract especially when it devolved around insecurity of his life, family or property! And as of right, they are asking:
With one voice, in one accord and without discordant tunes, they all chant plausible solutions of various degrees to the seemingly intractable security challenges which always flowed from endemic CORRUPTION in the system.

IT IS POSSIBLE TO HAVE A CORRUPT-FREE NATION IF WAR VETERAN BUHARI CAN IMPLEMENT THE FOLLOWING RECOMMENDATIONS IN 3 YEARS AND 4 MONTHS!

All official wastages in respect of financial, monetary, and fiscal allocations/appropriations – among the three tiers – Executive, Legislative and the Judiciary, especially during Budget preparation, defense, approval and execution, MUST be totally blocked through meticulous, painstaking and RIGHTEOUS monitoring by trusted aides!
Senate must be scrapped on or before 29th May, 2023! Buhari must achieve this feat through Referendum if the Legislators foot-drag!
House of Representative members must be reduced 360 to 74 by 29th May, 2023 and placed on civil service salary structure!
Legislative processes must commence from February 2020 to establish: (a) STATE POLICE authorities in all 36 States of the Federation according to one of the 13 recommendations of the 23-Member El Rufai Restructuring Committee of January 2018, which is now TWO YEARS OLD! (b) Derivation Principles. (c) Fiscal federalism and revenue allocation. (d) Devolution of powers. (e) Resource control (exploitation and revenue sharing of resources from oil /minerals) through constitutional amendments. (f) Local Government Autonomy. (g) REFERENDUM: SERIOUS National or State issues should be decided by a referendum (currently absent in the constitution), but which insertion can be quickly done through URGENT Amendment. (f) Independent Candidacy which precluded citizens from being forced to join any political party – this recommendation also needs amendment. All of the above recommendations MUST be implemented without further delay to drastically reduce the tension of insecurity and restore confidence in the people.

IS BUHARI THE REAL OBSTACLE TO RESTRUCTURING OF NIGERIA?

A very critical school of thought asserted that President Muhammadu Buhari, was the real opposition to the nation’s restructuring process because he had consistently held a stubborn view that CORRUPTION was the bane of economic and insecurity woes of Nigeria!
We could not agree more with the President who said in his New Year message that his administration would “take a closer look at the cost of government and for the public services long used to extravagance, waste and corruption to change for the better.”

He affirmed that security of life and property still topped the administration’s agenda adding that security operatives would not relent in ensuring safety for all citizens through incentive motivation and adequate funding.

PRESIDENT BUHARI WILL NOT RESIGN – HE WILL SHAME HIS DETRACTORS!

Buhari, like his Veteran American Presidents will have resounding victory because he is not alone, JEHOVAH SAOBBATH (the Lord of Hosts), is also with him for remaining diligent, faithful and righteous in the discharge of his constitutional duties to the Talakawas that he loves dearly and we shall all be witnesses to the actualization of this prophecy. Amen. THIS INSECURITY STARTED FROM INDEPENDENCE BUT WILL BE ROUTED IN THIS ERA! “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to all people”. (Proverbs. 14:34).

AFENIFERE AND IPOB ARE CO-JOINED SIAMESE TWINS THAT NEEDED URGENT SURGERY!

The agitation for the creation of a “Biafra State” spearheaded by late Colonel Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and its resistance by the Federal Military Government, which eventually snowballed into a full scale 30-month Nigerian civil war, had unequivocally represented the nucleus of all subsequent socio-political and even religious upheavals in the nation since 1966 to date!
Historians would not easily forget that shortly after close of the war in January 1970, and the discovery of crude oil in commercial quantity few years later in Oloibiri, formerly of Eastern Region but now in Bayelsa State, armed youths of that region did not waste time to demand for “derivation rights” and commensurate compensations for exploration/exploitation which devastated their environment, creeks and farmlands!
The Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MENDS), confronted consecutive military and democratic administrations with much violence that recorded untimely deaths of innocent citizens, including destruction of critical oil infrastructure/installations – through pipelines vandalism! And since the debut of MENDS, several other deadly armed groups sprang up in the six states that now represent the South-South Geo-Political Zone in Nigeria, with all of them demanding for adequate compensations from both the Federal Government and the foreign/local oil companies!
The 13% derivation fee which was inserted in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in their favour did not stop the agitations while the demands increased and persisted till date because those youths claimed that the over 90% of the nation’s economic resources was derivable from their region through the Crude Oil exportation!

THE RELIGIOUS FUNDAMENTALIST WAR OF BOKO HARAM WAS ANOTHER SELFISH DEMAND JUST LIKE AN UNCONSTITUTIONAL DEMAND FOR STATE CREATION!

From August 2009, till January 2020, a small religious sect addressed as Boko Haram, metamorphosed into a deadly group that had demanded to carve out a part of the North East Nigeria as an Islamic Caliphate, to be administered outside of constitutional provisions and almost succeeded until the present administration under the watch of President Muhammadu Buhari, in 2015, succeeded to flush them out of 17 Local Government Areas of Bornu State where they had hoisted their flags – but not without the painful loss of thousands of innocent lives which had been the trade mark of the terrorist group since their debut!

AFENIFERE - THE WESTERN REGIONAL BODY HAS ALSO ASSEMBLED A UNIFIED SECURITY FORCE CHRISTENED AMOTEKUN, TO BECOME INDEPENDENT OF THE NIGERIAN POLICE!

Birds of the same feather flock together because they possess identical thoughts, actions, ideologies, mien, behavioural patterns, eccentricities etc. The Igbos have been unrepentant and have never hidden their penchant for secession which incurred colossal loss on both sides, in men, material, strategic infrastructures, huge foreign exchange finances, serious health challenges of deadly epidemic proportions, which resulted from the Biafra War of 1967- 1970!
And they are still seeking the Yorubas as accomplices to break up Nigeria into the two British Protectorates before the 1914, amalgamation, for spurious claims of concocted marginalisation/segregation in scheme of politicking at the centre – especially in Federal ministerial/advisory appointments/positions and the presidency which, they claimed had “eluded” the Igbos since 1999!
In the first term of President Muhammadu Buhari, 2015-2019, the now officially proscribed Independent People of Biafra (IPOB), openly confronted the South East States Administrations and the Federal Government through violent public/street demonstrations and had engaged security agents with dangerous weapons which resulted in casualties on both sides!
Their “charismatic” leader Nnamdi Kanu, was arrested after a prolonged cat and mouse chase, with security agents, arraigned in court, granted bail but mysteriously escaped from the country to continue underground, the vilification/condemnation of Nigeria’s ruling administration through social media propagandas!
It was also revealed that Omoyele Sowore, met with Nnamdi Kanu at an undisclosed venue outside Nigeria before he (Sowore), carried out the aborted “Revolution Now” protest of 3rd August 2019!

THE YORUBA AFENIFERE SOCIO-CULTURAL GROUP IS YIELDING GROUNDS TO IPOB PRESSURES!

It is common knowledge that security of lives and properties is the paramount duty of all governments from federal to the local government areas because it is a sure foundation to build lasting and enduring socio-economic and political structures that would stand the test of time; and failure of any government in that regard would tantamount to failure in all other agendas!
Afenifere, like IPOB took a confrontational position against the Federal Government since the unfortunate attack on Yoruba elder statesman, Chief Olu Falae by armed herdsmen in his farm and the unfortunate killing of the daughter of its Chairman, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, by accusing the ruling APC Government in which it is a major stakeholder of security marginalization!
It is general knowledge that the escalation of insecurity was a nation-wide epidemic in great proportions and there was virtually no state of the federation that was excluded from the unfortunate mayhem that had devastated the nation since Boko Haram terrorists unleashed terror from North to South, East to West, without sparing the Federal Capital Territory which was attacked about FIVE consecutive times in 2014, with terrible fatalities!

“BIAFRA AGITATION” 50 YEARS AFTER! [1967-2020].

On 15th January 2020, all Nigerians, irrespective of tribe, tongue, clan or religion moaned over the bitter, painful and gruesome memories of irreparable loss of the precious lives of over two million civilians/soldiers, as they commemorated 50 YEARS of the avoidable 30-month Civil War which took place from 6th July, 1967 to 15th January 1970, in the belief that, never again would the nation degenerate to such abyss of confrontation instead of dialogue!
But in the few years leading to the commencement of this new decade, a cacophony of agitations for RESTRUCTURING OF NIGERIA rented the political space from east to west and north to south, without any exception to the extent that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Administration had to set up a Committee, chaired by Governor Nasir el Rufai, which came out with very sound recommendations on TRUE FEDERALISM ranging from establishment of State Police, to Merger of some States to ensure viability, Independent candidacy at elections, Introduction of Referendum in burning national issues, Amendment of the Petroleum Act to ensure Derivation Principles, Amendment of the 1999 Constitution to allocate more Revenue to the States and reduce Federal Government’s share in a move to ensure Devolution of Power to federating units!

CREATION OF 12 STATES BY THE MILITARY TO CHECKMATE OJUKWU’S “BIAFRA”!

In his own wisdom, retired General Yakubu Gowon, now an elder statesman, created 12 States out of the existing three major regions on 5th May 1967, in a move to check the influence of Ojukwu’s government in the East before the war thereby erasing REGIONALISM and entrenching ethnic bonding which should create a better platform for unity among the over 250 tribes and 500 languages of the diverse people of Nigeria, but in 50 years some renegades have decided to make a U-TURN and take Nigeria back to square one!

ARE THE FOLLOWING ORGANISATIONS PRESSURE OR FORCEFUL GROUPS?

In the North, the Arewa Youths Forum/Council, the South East flaunts Independent People of Biafra (IPOB), and their ilk, South-South boasts of MENDS, etc while the South West registered the socio-cultural group called Afenifere, all promoting regional agenda at every opportunity to destabilize and heat up the polity.
Insecurity had gained momentum through the debut of Boko Haram insurgency in 2009, long before the present administration of the APC and had escalated through multifarious crimes of kidnapping, gunmen attacks, the incessant pastoral/farmers bloody clashes, cattle rustling, etc.!

And since the opposition parties were very disappointed at the second term tenure of President Buhari, they have decided to make the country ungovernable by criticizing and condemning every agenda of government especially in respect of the fight against corruption, in other to cover up their tracks, instead of co-operating with security agencies to combat and defeat the common albatross of crimes and criminalities, through information/intelligence-gathering and supply of logistics through State governments under their control, they made a habit of CRYING WOLF to foreign countries and seeking for sanctions through negative index classifications in all of the nations socio-economic contract with the citizens!

IS THE SOUTH WEST TRULY MARGINALIZED IN ANY FORM?

The Afenifere and Odu’a Groups complained that the South West Zone was under much attacks by armed herdsmen and decided to protect citizens of their jurisdiction through the introduction of a para-military outfit code-named OPERATION AMOTEKUN, because there existed in other ZONES/REGIONS, HISBAH POLICE (KANO), BAKASSI BOYS (Anambra), etc.

SIX SOUTH WEST GOVERNORS VERSUS ABUBAKAR MALAMI. Attorney General and Minister of Justice.

Shortly after the launch of “Operation Amotekun”, 9th January, 2020, by a combined team of all the South West Governors, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, was reported to have declared the para-military body “illegal” because it did not have the blessing of the Federal Government! However, he had since denied the statement and encouraged the governors to give the outfit the necessary legal backing through their various State Assemblies.
APC Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s reaction though was rather belated, he called for dialogue and between the “TWO parties”; but according to political watchers he was sitting on the fence because of a 2023 presidential (minini), ........ ambition?
Hear him. “Amotekun is not against Nigeria”! He neither supported Malami nor the governors but succeeded in contradicting himself!

WHY IS MIYETTI ALLAH AFRAID OF OPERATION AMOTEKUN?

They claimed that the Odu’a Peoples Congress (OPC), and the “Agbekoya”, hunters of the South West which were notorious for heinous atrocities and had been recruited as the bulk of the operatives, would target their members whose pastoral activities always took them through bushes and forests ; but their fear was allayed as the governors vehemently claimed that “AMOTEKUN”, and similar vigilante groups functioning as Regional para-military bodies, would enhance the security architecture of their various communities in conjunction with the Nigerian Police authorities, across the nation.
NIGERIA’S UNITY IS NON-NEGOTIABLE! THE SIAMESE TWINS BE SEVERED NOW!

FORBES MAGAZINE, a reputable international periodical, in the month of May, 2017, spotlighted FIVE NIGERIAN BILLIONAIRES who could eradicate poverty in Nigeria. They are: (1) Aliko Dangote USD$12.5; (2) Mike Adenuga Jnr, $10.5; (3) ‘Femi Otedola, $2.3; (4) Lady Folorunso Alakija, $2.1; and (5) Theophilus Danjuma, $1.7!

Outside of these recognized Forex billionaires, Anambra, South East Nigeria, alone boasts of over 3,000 Naira billionaires whose penchant was constantly fixed on local politics of determining who made it to the Government Lodge/Legislative Chamber at every election in order to have a grip on the treasury through fraudulent demand for contract patronage to recoup their investments from successful contestants!

There are other unsung billionaires all over the remaining 35 States and yet POVERTY is a “sing-song” in Nigeria and among the mass of the people who suffer in the midst of plenty!

RECKLESS INSTITUTIONAL CORRUPTION IS RESPONSIBLE FOR POVERTY IN NIGERIA!

Before, the Forbe’s interventionist stance, several international bodies had watched very closely, how institutional corruption with impunity had been the order of the day – especially during the military occupation and also in the fresh introduction of democratic exploration from 1999-2017!

According to another foreign monitor OXFAM, there was a large and grown gap between the rich and the poor in Nigeria, because the combined wealth of those FIVE (USD$29.9 billion dollars), was more than sufficient to eradicate sufferings and boost the economy in order to avoid the repetition of the North East which had grappled with several years of insurgency/ terrorism which stemmed from deprivation and a hopeless condition of abject poverty!

The report also claimed that public office holders stole an estimated USD $20 trillion dollars from the Nigerian TREASURY between 1960 and 2005, while multi-national companies received TAX INCENTIVES estimated at USD$2.9 billion dollars annually, to prove that the nation’s economic debauchery had been endemic from independence when the Nigerian NEO-COLONIALISTS took over from their British masters!

The Nigeria Bureau of Statistics (NBS), 2017, also reported that about 112 million Nigerians (61.7%), of the country’s total population, lived below poverty level!

POVERTY IS A GLOBAL SCOURGE – EVEN IN MODERN-DAY AMERICA!

In a recent documentary on “How Poor People Survive In USA”, it was revealed that at least, 40 million people live below poverty line with a spread through South Carolina, Santiago, Virginia, the “Rural America” – where food aid through subsidized food coupons, were regularly distributed to mitigate culinary deprivation as consecutive American Presidents including Donald Trump, have given priority to the WAR AGAINST POVERTY AGENDA!

Many Americans are both jobless and homeless as they were evicted within FIVE days of default on rent! At least 3,600 people are evicted daily! Most of them dwell on the streets, under bridges and in open spaces or inside their vehicles which serve as homes! Most of them collect left-over “Pitzas” from restaurants to feed their families and Health Care and medical challenges have become very prominent!

HAVE MIKE ADENUGA AND COMPANY TAKEN THE POOR MASSES OUT OF POVERTY?

Question One - Are those FIVE outstanding-billionaires bona fide Nigerian citizens? YES!
Question Two - Did they amass their billions through investments in the various sectors of the Nigerian economy? YES!
Question Three – Are they consciously ploughing back into social intervention programmes to alleviate poverty in the land since the year 2017 when they were exposed on the social media? Maybe!
Question Four – Are they paying commensurate TAXES to governments at all levels as at when due? Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), should confirm!
Question Five – Have they positively touched some lives or communities with social infrastructures in industrialization, manufacturing, education, security, health facilities, access roads for goods and services, electricity generation through hydro, thermal or the renewable solar energy etc, etc.? NO!

It was precisely 30 months ago, in July 2017, when the United States of America and North Korean Presidents flexed both nuclear/arsenal muscles and threatened a Third World War to prove who was superior in warfare strategies!

Though there existed a loose United Nations international convention which banned acquisition, accumulation, engagement, or deployment of nuclear warheads against member nations, both countries threatened to destroy each other without consideration for their innocent mass of people who would suffer the tragic consequences! They displayed hostile attitude and military threats which in the ensuing conflict, agitated global panic among the peaceful and law-abiding citizens of the world over inordinate ambition!

That America’s military/arsenal prowess is highly sophisticated, shoulder-high and above other nations is not in doubt! The United States Air Force and the Navy are the deadliest and most vicious in the world and their ground forces are, by all standards, the most intimidating in military operations and armed combat warfare!
And it was exactly for those reasons that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), sued for peaceful co-existence among the United Nations (UN), since the end of World War II in 1945!

BUT NORTH KOREA CLAIMED IT WAS NO PUSH-OVER FOR AMERICA!

In that year 2017, THIRTY-THREE-YEAR-OLD Chairman of the Workers Party of Korea (WPK), and Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un of Democratic Peoples' Republic of Korea (DPRK), who assumed office, 13th April, 2012, persistently and deliberately flouted all international laws in respect of the use of nuclear weapons of mass destruction without regard for international conventions/treaties and consistently provoked US Ally, South Korea, to war!

The young leader had boasted of his country's dexterity in the invention and manufacture of highly sophisticated nuclear war heads, atomic/hydrogen bombs, which can destroy any country and confidently claimed that his NUCLEAR PROGRAMME was specifically designed against US global aggression!

Kim Jong-un attracted international condemnation, championed by President Donald Trump for having tested a number of provocative Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (IBMs), though he accused the US of using the North Korea's nuclear programme as an excuse to mask its own opposition to banning nuclear weapons. He also claimed through his envoy at the United Nation's (UN), mission, in that year, that the US drove his country to make and possess nuclear weapons to defend itself against any American aggression.
He said that the US was the first country to use nuclear weapons against Japan, during World War II and had continued to use them, "to threaten and blackmail other countries" including North Korea which supported global effort to eliminate nuclear weapons until the denuclearization of the world was implemented.

The US had said that it would not participate in the UN talks aimed at banning nuclear weapons because, in Donald Trump’s words, "bad actors” wouldn't sign or comply with a potential treaty since "North Korea would be the one cheering and the people we represent would be the one at risk." Although there is a global move to totally ban nuclear weapons, the five nuclear powers, -US, Russia, China, Britain and France, have refused to attend the meeting, saying a ban won't work but opted for "a more (unexplained), gradual approach." DPRK's envoy to the UN has disclosed that his country would not also take part in the talks because of joint military exercises by US and South Korea using Special Forces and "all kinds of nuclear strategic assets", AIMED AT SECRETLY INVADING NORTH KOREA TO ELIMINATE ITS LEADERSHIP!

IS THE SAME SCENARIO PLAYING OUT WITH IRAN? DOES IRAN TRULY POSSESS WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION?

Trending now is, Iranian President Ayatollla Khamenel, who is angry with Donald Trump for daring to assassinate his right hand man and commander of the Iranian Quds Force [believed by the US to be an international terrorist organization], and is ready to avenge his death and those of his lieutenants who were eliminated in deadly drone attack near Baghdad International Airport! The US and Iran are now the arrowheads of a fresh threat to a world that is grappling with severe climatic conditions ranging from heat waves, bush fires, tornadoes, tsunamis, hurricanes, devastating floods, which bombs and nuclear warheads can only aggravate to accelerate and end to the existing Earth as it is presently constituted!

What was his grouse against Iran? They are multiple! Trump fanatically believes in the American military prowess that positions it as the “greatest global super power”, to which other nations must bow and tremble before; and would therefore not condone any contrary theory to that position!
Diplomatic relations between America and Iran had been strained with over 40 years of violent hostilities between the two nations!

Therefore when American Embassies in Baghdad, came under siege in view of organized mob protests, days before a US drone strike killed Major General Qasem Soilemani, top Iranian commander, Donald Trump did not waste time to refer to a similar incident when 52 Americans were taken hostage for 444 days from 1979 to 1981, in a similar manner at the US EMBASSY in Tehran and quickly swung into action to avoid a re-occurrence by eliminating the late Iranian military general on 3rd January, 2020?

WHO POSSESSES THE POWER OF VENGEANCE, MAN OR GOD?

“Vengeance is mine and I will avenge”, says the Lord of Hosts, but Mr. Donald Trump believed he could eliminate any person or overthrow any government at will while Iran also trusted that it could defend its position and retaliate when attacked! As a result of the recent faceoff, nine others were killed alongside Soleimani, including the deputy chairman of Iraq’s Popular Forces and commander of Kata’ib Hezbollah, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who was listed as a terrorist in the United Arab Emirates and the United States.

ATTACKS AND COUNTER ATTACKS – TRUMP AND AYATOLLAH ARE STILL ALIVE WHILE THEIR PEOPLE PERISH!

Prior to that operation, [on 27th December, 2019, the K-1 Air Base in Iraq which hosts Iraqi and US personnel was attacked and an American contractor was killed. The US promptly responded by launching airstrikes across Iraq and Syria, killing 25 Iran-backed Kata’ib Hezbollah militiamen and days later, Shia militiamen and their supporters retaliated by attacking the US Embassy in the Green Zone!

Iran has launched series of missile attacks on the US Forces based in Iraq, without casualties until the shooting down of a Ukranian Airliner, Boeing Co. 737-800 jet, in which all passengers, 176 – including 82 Iranian nationals – lost their lives, shortly after take-off, which it claimed was human error!

IRAN HAS CLAIMED RESPONSIBILITY!

Iran “deeply” regrets the accidental shooting of the Ukranian Airliner early last week as it blindly pursued the evil doctrine of Vengeance against the United States and profusely apologized for the disastrous mistake to all countries (including, Canada, Sweden, Afghanistan, Germany, Britain, Ukraine ), whose citizens perished in the avoidable disaster! Iranian protesters took to the streets after Tehran admitted that the Ukranian Airliner was un-intentionally shot down as it approached a sensitive military base due to human error according to the armed forces!

IRANIANS SHOULD THINK TWICE BEFORE STORMING THE STREETS TO DIE FOR BAD LEADERSHIP! When two elephants fight, the grass suffers the consequences!
WHO WILL FIRE THE NEXT MISSILE? HAS GOD NOT INTERVENED AGAIN IN THE AFFAIRS OF MEN? CARNAL WAR CANNOT BE WON BY MIGHT NOR BY POWER, BUT BY GOD’S INTERVENTION!

When Donald Trump came to power in January 2016, he did not waste time to reverse the bilateral agreements between the two nations on nuclear disarmament, certain concessions on gradual reduction and stoppage of further acquisition which would attract economic sanctions for violations of terms of agreement between Iran and the US under the watch of President Barak Obama, his predecessor in office!

It is gratifying to observe that at the turn of new decade 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari, has decided to get closer to his Nigerian Constituency through the art of “letter writing”, which is actually not an innovation but a diplomatic stunt to get filial attention from the entire grassroots who secured the electoral platform which brought him to power for the second term in office and as their trusted confidant, leader and number one citizen of the Federal Republic, whose testimony could be taken to the bank!

Nigerians are not unaware that the President is on the last lap of his mandate which will definitely terminate constitutionally on 29th May, 2023, and that he has debunked insinuations from various quarters of tenure elongation in any form because he had no such ambition!

To prove his genuine intentions, he rolled out an impressive resume of immediate and subsequent plans to conclude all mapped-out plans to push closer dividends of democracy to the entire populace irrespective of party affiliation through several aggressive moves of fresh political, socio-economic and security thrusts to ensure dividends of democracy to the masses as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, by rolling out new drives to ensure actualization of all mapped-out strategies to assert the second term mandate of four years given to him by the Nigerian electorate from 29th May, 2019 to 29th May, 2023!

In his Year 2020 Letter to Nigerians, President Buhari left no one in doubt that he would put in his best to leave behind a convincing legacy that he achieved even beyond expectations of several detractors of his second term appointment to further serve his nation with honesty, diligence, probity and with the intention to build on the foundations already laid on security, diversification of the economy and ruthlessly attacking the “curse of corruption” to destroy it from foundation, ensure more stable, sustainable and more prosperous future for all Nigerians.

The President debunked all allegations and intentions of any THIRD TERM – elongation of office beyond 2023, which he believed was the imaginations/machinations of his detractors! He promised to strengthen the electoral process in his second and final term, win the battle against violent extremists, cultists and organised criminal networks with a view to restoring peace to the North East and by extension to other geo-political zones through co-operation with all State Governors, neighbouring West African States, and international partners and tackling the tide of violent extremism and networks that finance and organize terror, kidnapping, banditry and armed robbery!

THE PRESIDENT DEALT EXTENSIVELY ON THE NAGGING ISSUE OF INSECURITY AND FOCUSED ON THE CHALLENGE OF WINNING PEACE!
He promised in his letter to intensify the challenge to win peace, reconstruct lives, communities/markets through the North East Development Commission (NEDC), which will work with local and international stakeholders to help create a new beginning for the region. The President promised to address the root cause of violent extremism/terror and re-organize the security forces, provide them with best training, modern weaponry to increase their professionalism and respect for human rights by providing them with sophisticated technological resources to professionally tackle kidnappings, banditry/armed robbery in all sectors of the economy, through increased recruitment by the new Ministry of Police Affairs!

YEAR 2020 STRATEGIES!
According to his address, the year 2020 would witness gradual implementation of all of the above, including aggressive power generation to address ease-of-doing-business across board in transportation, second Niger bridge, Lagos –Ibadan Express Way, Abuja –Kano Highway, Lagos-Kano Rail Line in collaboration with private sector partners; not leaving out new international airport terminals in Kano and Lagos in this new year to impact business operations which fiscal feasibility/sustainability, would attract both government and private sector investments. Year 2020 will also witness opportunities in agriculture, manufacturing, increased value from oil and gas which will operate on commercial principles and free from political interference in order to deliver a more competitive, attractive and profitable industry.

THE LIQUEFIED NATURAL GAS AS AN ADDITIONAL ECONOMIC RESOURCE!
The President in Council, late December, 2019, approved a fair framework for the USD 10 billion expansion of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas, which will increase exports by 35%, restore Nigeria’s position as a world leader in the sector and create thousands of jobs for the nation’s jobless youths!

There was also the amendment of the Deep Offshore Act of October 2019 which signalled the nation’s intention to create a modern forward-looking industry in Nigeria. The President believes that vibrant youth population would also play vital role to accelerate the pace of change in technology in the decade ahead in a way that it would benefit the nation through the huge opportunities it offers. He also re-stated his 2019 Democracy Day promise to lay the enduring foundations to take a hundred million Nigerians out of mass poverty over the next ten years through reforms in education, health care and water sanitation through the support of international donor agencies who would work with States and Local Governments to ensure continuity.
Workers are to enjoy living wages while pensioners will be succoured through clearance of arrears and benefits that have been long neglected adding that implementation of the approved 2020 Budget would take off seamlessly and commended the 9th National Assembly (NASS) for their co-operation with the Executive in restoring the January to December Budget cycle to ensure the Nigerian Decade of prosperity etc, etc.

SOME PROJECTS TO RECEIVE IMMEDIATE ATTENTION IN 2020!
47 road projects scheduled for completion in 2020/2021, including roads leading to ports.
Major bridges including substantial work on the Second Niger Bridge;
Completion of 13 housing estates under the National Housing Project Plan.
Lagos, Kano, Maiduguri and Enugu international airports to be commissioned in 2020.
Launching of an agricultural rural mechanisation scheme that will cover 700 Local Governments over a period of three years;
Launching of Livestock Development Project Grazing Model in Gombe State where 200,000 hectares of land has been identified;
Training of 50,000 workers to complement the country’s 7,000 extension workers;
Commissioning of the Lagos-Ibadan and Itakpe-Warri rail lines in the first quarter;
Commencement of the Ibadan – Abuja and Kano-Kaduna rail lines also in the first quarter;
Further liberalisation of the Power Sector to allow businesses to generate and sell power;
Commencement of the construction of the Mambilla Power project by the first half of 2020; and
Commencement of the construction of the AKK gas pipeline, OB3 gas pipeline and the expansion of the Escravos - Lagos pipeline in the first quarter of 2020.

HISTORY OF NIGERIAN VISION 20:2020!
The purpose of the Vision 20:2020 was conceived since 2007 by the Federal Government, for Nigeria to qualify to be among the 20 largest global economies by the year 2020, through deliberate planning by technocrats! Building a solid foundation for Vision 2020 through the National Council established for that purpose in an itemized thematic areas numbering 36 and focussed in all areas of the economy ranging from poverty alleviation/developmental issues to revenue allocation, public and financial management, capital market development, micro small and medium scale enterprises, agriculture and value chain, manufacturing solid mineral development, banking and finance, education, health, manufacturing, macro economy, agriculture, transport , housing water etc, etc! Nigeria should be able to consolidate its leadership position in Africa and establish itself as a significant player in the global economic and political arena by year 2020!

Funding of the 2020 Vision: A Business Support Group (BSG), an initiative of the National Steering Committee of Vision 2020, made up of dynamic and visionary business leaders and entrepreneurs of repute and distinction was established to engender private sector support for the Nigeria Vision 2020 process through technical and financial support, organized fund-raising activities and mobilize resources from the private sector of the economy and update the President as at when due on progress and outcomes of its activities.

IS NIGERIA ONE OF THE 20 LARGEST GLOBAL ECONOMIES NOW IN THE YEAR 2020?
The 20:2020 Vision could not be actualized as envisaged but significant achievements were made in the areas of agriculture, natural mineral resources, since the partial border closure since 20th August, 2019. According to the summarised table of the list of African countries by GDP (PPP), Nigeria has the third-highest Gross Domestic Product (GDP), at Purchasing Power Parity (PPP), among African countries 91,168.399 million international dollars).

Although, there was no significant success in the actualization of dream 2020, the All Progressive Congress (APC), Change Administration has made significant thrust into the extended economic programme which is now tagged 2030 SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGs), through all of the itemised economic activities which must be meticulously executed and re-road Nigeria back for massive economic growth in this new direction of the sustainable growth! President Buhari and his economic team should be given the support by all patriotic Nigerians to actualize his lofty programmes by shunning all forms of negative/antagonistic diversionary tendencies sponsoring or encouraging crimes, through criminal connivance, which are vices against sustainable economic growth, just because they are sworn enemies of progress!

WHO among the religious elites in Nigeria that would claim ignorance of the Islamic Sharia Law, especially when it is given adequate prominence in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, which is 20 years old, this December, except mischief makers, confusionists and bigots!

Sections 260 – 279 are devoted to explicitly to analyze the Establishment, of Sharia Courts of Appeal, Appointment of Grand Kadi and Kadis, Constitution, Practice and Procedure of both the Federal and States Sharia Courts of Appeal without creating any form of ambiguity and allowed governments at both levels to apply discretion in implementation!

Recently, Wednesday, 25th December, 2019, the incumbent Chief Justice of Nigeria, advocated that Sharia education should be conducted in Arabic language at the university level for it to gain more prominence among the adherents but his postulation attracted a barrage of condemnations/vilifications from the social media subscribers, professional and religious bodies, who are programmed to oppose any thought or ideas from all quarters, high or low without bordering to interrogate or verify the integrity of such thoughts!

They delight in throwing away the baby with the bath water!

FALSEHOOD AGAINST THE CJN BY “LEARNED BROTHERS”!
Judging from his impressive resume and professional diligence, no critic can succeed to smear or impugn Chief Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad’s character as to classify him as an advocate for Islamisation Agenda of Nigeria considering the fact that he is an authority when it comes to analytical details of the Islamic Religious Laws and Jurisprudence, who studied and received the bachelor, master and doctorate degrees in LAW from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria between 1980 and 1998, having been called to the BAR in the year1981, the same year he graduated from the Nigerian Law School!

While We might ignore the ranting of illiterate users of the social media, We completely disagree with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), which castigated the erudite legal luminary that he was neither a lawyer nor was he called to the BAR, contrary to the prescribed qualifications as stipulated in Section 261 (1) (2) (3) (a) (b) (i) (ii), with which he got appointments in his former positions as Judge of both the Sharia and the Appeal Courts respectively.
The Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria (MULAN), rejected attacks on the person of the CJN by Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), Afenifere, Ohaneze,Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE), Middle Belt Group and described the criticisms as an act of religious intolerance and advised them to desist from “fuelling Islamophobia agenda!

This 67-year-old Nigerian Jurist is the highest ranking judicial officer and Head of the Supreme Court, whose position was confirmed by the Senate on 16th July, 2019, is in no way a man of controversy, although some critics made mountains of his appointment following the travail and subsequent exit of his predecessor, Justice Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen.

THE SHARIA EDUCATION ADVOCACY BY THE CHIEF JUSTICE OF NIGERIA!
Chief Justice Tanko Muhammad, who rose through the ranks was once a Kadi, and later a Justice of the Nigerian Courts of Appeal, made his presentation with mindset of encouraging more awareness of academic interests among Islamic Faith practitioners at the tertiary level in order disabuse the lukewarm attitude of academicians should champion and re-invigorate the noble cause through the language of ISLAM which is ARABIC and not ENGLISH!

CHRISTIANITY and ISLAM are the TWO major Faith-based religions that are very prominent in Nigeria with the former having greater number of adherents in the SOUTH, while the later holds sway in the NORTH. Since Sharia gained public attention in 1999, because of its inclusiveness in the 1999 Constitution, no Southern State adopted its tenets nor practiced its laws because THEY ARE NOT BINDING ON THE CITIZENS NIGERIA IS A SECULAR STATE – ie, a State without an adopted religion! It is also noteworthy that of about the TEN Northern States that “practice” Sharia, only Kano and Zamfara seemed to show some level of seriousness in the implementation of the law which traverses Islamic criminal justice, procedural matters, marriage and divorce, issues relating to children, financial legislation , among others.

WHEN DID IT BECOME AN OFFENCE FOR A NIGERIAN CITIZEN TO EXERCISE HIS/HER FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT OF SPEECH OR OPINION? IS JUSTICE TANKO THE AUTHOR OF THE SHARIA LAW, WHICH WAS PRESCRIBED AS PANACEA FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE AND HAD BEEN IN EXISTENCE FROM THE TIME OF PROPHET MOHAMMED, FOUNDER OF ISLAM?

The CJN is a Muslim whose religion embraces the Sharia Law and has the fundamental right to express his opinion which did not contradict any extant law
From intensive and painstaking research – Sharia Law as practiced in Nigeria is LIBERAL and advocates good governance, sane society where rights and opportunities are apportioned in gender-friendly proportions to avoid infringements on any side.
The CJN believes that if Sharia Law was taught in Arabic instead of English at the tertiary level, the Muslim academia would be in better position to propagate the religious tenets adequately to reach out to more adherents across board.

Our research also clearly revealed that all tenets of the Islamic Faith, were geared toward social justice, equal life opportunities for all adherents and societies devoid of violence in all forms; but like in every society/community, some extremists or fundamentalist would step outside acceptable norms to oppose, disagree and kick against social and religious laws meant to ensure peaceful co-existence!

MUST ANYONE CONDEMN ANOTHER’S RELIGION IN A SECULAR STATE- ESPECIALLY WHEN IT DID NOT ADVOCATE VIOLENCE?
At XMAS, President Muhammadu Buhari condemned the gruesome murder through beheading of 11 Christian hostages, who were abducted in Bornu State, by a faction of the Islamist Boko Haram, fighting under the banner of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), which claimed retaliation for their leader who died during US raid in Syria in October, 2019!
Although ISWAP deliberately timed the senseless killings to coincide with Xmas to infuriate Christians with the intention to cause a religious war but, President Buhari pleaded with all Nigerians not to allow the dastard act to divide them as a united nation.

US PLACES NIGERIA ON “RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION” WATCH-LIST!
Shortly before Christmas, Friday 20th December, 2019, the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, announced that his country has placed Nigeria on its Special Watch-List (SWL), of countries that engage in severe religious persecution!
What an irony of fate! The same US sent its troops to raid Syria in October 2019, killed scores of ISWAP leaders and their ranks only for the terrorist group to murder CHRISTIAN S in Nigeria at Xmas instead of attacking the US Military Base!

AND THE PEOPLE ARE ANGRY, VERY ANGRY, AND ARE DEMANDING REVERSAL OF THE NON-TRANSPARENT DEAL! Show me a Nigerian politician from 1999 till date, not puffed up for occupying transient position of office and authority having accumulated illegal lucre and illicit financial gains created through various loopholes in the military-crafted Constitution of the nation’s capitalist Presidential system of government which is expensive, wasteful and prodigious!

Check out the convictions of high-profile cases won in the courts and you will not be surprised to find scores of former GOVERNORS/POLITICAL APPOINTEES in the various Correctional Institutions in spite of long delays in jurisprudence which must fulfil the constitutional grace of “suspects being innocent until proven guilty” by competent courts of lawful jurisdiction! The anti-corruption war score-card released by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, on Friday, 20th December, 2019, was quite impressive: 1,636 convictions including FOUR ex-Governors in prison, while 22 other governors are also under investigation for corruption!

SUGAR AND HONEY POLITICS IN NIGERIA!
Have we not consistently and persistently shouted to the whole world that Nigerian politics can be likened to SUGAR/HONEY that attract multitude of ants and flies because of their sweetened ingredients? WHY DID THE SOLDIERS OPT FOR THE PRESIDENTIAL SYSTEM AND THE SELF-ACCLAIMED DEMOCRATS WHO TOOK OVER FAIL TO CHANGE THE SYSTEM UNTIL NOW, 1999-2019? Why must Nigeria maintain a BI-CAMERAL Parliamentary arrangement which gulps almost half of every annual budget appropriations in CONCURRENT EXPENDITURE into to the bellies of those GLUTTONS?
Was it not high time we dispensed with 109 SENATORS and reduce the REPRESENTATIVES TO AN AFFORDABLE FIGURE OF 74 on part-time in this age of super Information Communication Technology (ICT)? How could a country which was battered through a self-inflicted “Biafra” 30-month Civil War (1967-1970), and was immersed in military dictatorship for almost 30 years, opt for the luxurious administration of reckless affluence that satiates only the politicians in the chaotic midst of a scotched/dry land which badly needed showers of economic blessings to comfort a people thirsty for better life and basic amenities of life? And why had the politicians who took over the mantle of leadership from 1999-2019, found it very difficult to draft a brand new people-oriented/friendly Constitution that would ensure prudent management of scarce resources, suitable to deliver dividends of democracy to the masses, instead of a “prodigious” (wasteful), presidential system which recklessly institutionalized corruption.

The psyche of the already traumatized poor Nigerians because of the unacceptable disparity of life between the insensitive politicians who daily flaunt the illicit wealth stolen from the common wealth unabashedly, should not be further bastardized by PLOUGHING N37 BILLION TO RENOVATE THE WALLS OF THEIR POSH OFFICES AND CHAMBERS INSTEAD OF RENOVATING THE SOULS OF THE TALAKAWAS WITH: Modern Health care facilities, Decent Houses to accommodate their families, Provide millions of employment opportunities for the jobless youths, women and able-bodied adults, Guarantee Free and compulsory education for all street children, Potable water in every home, Electricity power to boost the economy etc, etc.

PRESIDENT BUHARI SHOULD PROVE TO BE THE TRUE GAME-CHANGER!
During the recently-launched National Security Strategy Road Map,(3rd December, 2019), held at the State House, Abuja, National Security Adviser (NSA), Mohammad Babagana Monguno, described the Almajiri System prevalent in the North as a ”time bomb” but comforted his audience and Nigerians that a comprehensive approach had been devised in the document to address the ugly trend!

In an overview on the feasibility of the working document, he expressed genuine concerns that the out-dated system of education whose graduates constitute the bulk of about 10.5 million out-of-school street children in Nigeria, should challenge the nonchalant attitude of governments at all levels to redress the dangerous trend and assured that the newly-reviewed security strategy would take care of NOT only the nagging issue but also address POVERTY AND HEALTH CARE DELIVERY SYSTEM across the nation!

President Buhari promised in October 2019, to take 100 million Nigerians out of POVERTY IN TEN YEARS, but most people across the divide believed; that was “a tall order”, considering many militating -socio-economic factors – including but not limited to, regular deficit budgeting/budget padding, external borrowings/debt-servicing – but We believe it is achievable through frugal expenditures!

PRESIDENT BUHARI COULD NOT HAVE APPROVED N37BILLION NAIRA TO RENOVATE NASS WALLS? OR DID HE? HE MUST SPEAK OUT NOW!
The President was alleged to have approved the controversial N37 billion naira (US $100million dollars), to renovate the National Assembly Complex, which was initially constructed at a cost of N7 Billion naira in 1999! On Monday 16th December, 2019, a day before President Buhari signed into law the 2020 Budget, an excited Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, hinted that: “Mr Buhari approved the amount (N37billion), after lawmakers met with him to explain the poor condition of the legislature building in Abuja.
Between 2013 and 2017, the sum of N41.27,440 billion was approved by Federal Executive Council (FEC), for construction of Phase III Part III of NASS and upgrading of the two chambers and purchase of security equipment. Also in the twilight of President Buhari’s first term, the following monies: N874,000, N1,032 and N820,000 were disbursed to carry out sundry renovation contracts ranging from “Painting of Committee Rooms; Replacement of Address System in the Committee Room, to Supply and Installation of E-Parliament Software/Hardware etc which reeked of duplication, inflation/outrageous procurements and contract fraud!
Why is NASS building renovation a PRIORITY when the nation is burdened with so much DEBT? All of the above-listed expenditure totalling N3.4billion, was said to be balance of the controversial N10billion naira that former Minister of Finance, ‘Kemi Adeosun illegally released to the National Assembly! The sum of N6.6billion was allegedly spent on exotic cars by the legislators, according to a report released in 2018, s by the International Centre for Investigative Reporting, as published by Premium Times of 27th April, 2018 and 18th December, 2019, respectively. WE ARE NOT AWARE THAT THE PRESIDENCY HAS DENIED THIS DAMNING REPORT!

IS THE 9TH NASS A RUBBER STAMP? NO!
Whoever said that the Senate President and NASS were “RUBBER STAMP” to all Executive requests got it very wrong! The following activities before the D Day, 17th December, 2019, which debuted both the President’s 77th birthday and signing of the 2020 Budget into law should prove our point. President Buhari submitted the year 2020 Budget proposals totalling a sum of N10.3 trillion to a joint National Assembly (NASS), in September, 2019. The Senate jacked it up from N10.33 to N10.6 trillion with (N63.9 billion), which included the N37 billion for renovation of WALLS, surreptitiously inserted and the President could not withhold his assent to avoid the new Budget cycle period of January to December promised by Lawan and company from derailing! Has the crime of budget padding (which legislators always denied), not been committed by these 2019, “LEGISLATORS” again? Who are they representing, their pockets and families or “WE THE PEOPLE......” to whom they should be subservient? According to Lawan, FCT would carry out renovation through the FCDA; – But who will carry out the OVERSIGHT DUTY, where legislators have been alleged to regularly collect heavy BRIBES in other to look the other way? And the legislators are shamelessly defending their action for inserting the controversial amount in spite of negative foreign assessments with regards to Nigeria’s ratings as the nation with the worst index in corruption, poverty, under development, illiteracy, insecurity, human rights abuse, etc, etc!

INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING SAYS N37BILLON NAIRA COULD BE BETTER UTILIZED AS FOLLOWS:
(1)Two Primary Health Centres each will be built across the 774 LGAs for N24.77billion at N16million naira each! (2) Twenty-one (21), Federal Teaching Hospitals will be equipped with Linear Radiotherapy Machines, for CANCER treatment (which are virtually non-existent compared to Nigeria’s population), for about N9.6 billion! Only FOUR tertiary hospitals are equipped!
The total cost of the above is N33.83 billion, leaving a balance of N3.17billon which can be ploughed into the Social Intervention Programme (SIP), to assist Small and Medium Scale entrepreneurs (SMSEs); At N500,000 NAIRA each, 834 beneficiaries will quit the labour market and at N250,000 each, 1.068, would have been established! THE APPROPRIATION OF N37BILLION NAIRA FOR THE UMPTEENTH RENOVATION OF NASS IS ANATHEMA – A MISNOMER WHICH MUST BE CANCELLED AND RE-ALLOCATED TO ALLEVIATE POVERTY!
Senator Ahmed Lawan who had been a legislator since 1999, should know better!

UPROAR OVER HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS – WHO’S RIGHT, WHO’S WRONG?
Except for valid and legal pronouncement of a state of emergency by the President – in the event of war or violence as enshrined in Section 305 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, nothing shall derogate (detract, diminish or take away part of any citizen’s merit or fundamental rights: to private and family life, freedom of thought, conscience and religion, freedom of expression and the Press, peaceful assembly and association, and to freedom of movement!

They are inalienable and incontrovertible rights that must be provided for all citizens by every successive government of the Federation, but of recent, the incumbent administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been under heavy bombardments from all sections of the society, prominent among them are opposition parties, the Press, social media, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the United States Government, Foreign Organisations, etc, for disobedience to those constitutional rights of the individuals through flagrant disrespect to the rule of law and court verdicts that were unfavourable to it!

ARE SOCIAL MISCREANTS ALSO ENTITLED TO HUMAN RIGHTS?
Apart from law-abiding citizens who pay their dues according to Chapter II, Section 24 [ (a) – (f) ], of the 1999 Constitution, who else is entitled to fundamental rights? In particular reference to the State of Nigeria, the Constitution clearly states that CONVICTS would automatically lose all of the above listed rights throughout their period of incarceration BUT WHAT OF THE TERRORISTS, BANDITS, KIDNAPPERS etc, who perpetrate heinous crimes and still walk free? For as long as they were neither apprehended nor brought to justice, must they enjoy such rights at all?
AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL in some years back castigated Nigerian soldiers for summarily executing Boko Haram Prisoners of War, (POWs), without proper legal process, though they had no proof or evidence to support their claim! But in an interview AI was silent, when it was suggested that since those psychopaths (who relished in reckless, unprovoked and wanton destruction of lives and property, persistently and incessantly for about a decade), did not believe in human rights of thousands of innocent victims they had sent to early graves, they also should not be accorded such privilege!

WHERE DOES HUMAN RIGHT BEGIN OR ENDS? ARE GOVERNMENTS ENTITLED TO FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS? WHAT IS THE CONSTITUTIONAL ROLE OF THE PRESS? IS THE NIGERIAN PRESS FREE?
There are two sections in the 1999 Constitution which empower the Press to play the role of a watchdog, monitor and ensure that government is always accountable to the people who elected them to position of authority. Section 22 obligates the mass media to uphold at all times the fundamental objectives as obtained in Chapter II, and also uphold the responsibility and accountability of the Government to the people; while Chapter III, Section 39 (1), (2), (3)(a) (b); permit officially authorised persons to own any medium for the dissemination of information, ideas and opinions.

PUNCH NEWSPAPER ACCUSES PRESIDENCY OF RIGHTS VIOLATION!
The Punch Newspaper Editorial of Wednesday 11th December, 2019, tested the waters and accused the Presidency of:
Serial disregard for human rights; and
Battering other arms of government and democratic institutions;
Flagrant disobedience to COURT ORDERS; and opined that the President had garbed the military dictatorial garb of 1984-1985 and concluded that it would henceforth address President Buhari as, “Major General”! Heaven did not fall because the doctrine of Press Freedom was respected! Government has also waded into the face-off between “revolution now” protagonist, Omoyele Sowore and DSS, the prosecuting agency, having withdrawn working files to Office of the Attorney General for execution.

THE NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION (NBA) SET TO DEFEND HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION!
The Nigerian Bar Association which has severally been accused of complacency in respect of human rights violation, has spoken out in defence of Omoyele Sowore and condemned DSS high-handedness in the handling of his bail application and eventual re-arrest on Friday 6th December 2019, allegedly within an Abuja High Court premises in violation of his fundamental rights and also the desecration of the sacredness of the Court Room, but government denied the claim! They had threatened boycott of the courts if within 14 days, Sowore’s trial was not accorded accelerated attention, but it is yet to be seen if they would actually bark and bite!

IS BUHARI GOVERNMENT ACTUALLY CULPABLE OF ALL ACCUSATIONS OF HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION?
A list of human rights violation against the ruling Federal Government according to Amnesty International include but not limited to the following: (1) Arbitrary arrests, (2) Harassment of human rights defenders, activists and journalists (3) Documented killings of hundreds by States and non-State actors, (4) Extra-judicial executions, (5) Detention, torture, (6) Violence against women, (7) Restrictions on freedom of expression; which government constantly denied as untrue and distorted information designed to rubbish the people-oriented human rights records of the administration!

BAD LOSERS ARE THE FAULT - FINDERS!
The 2019 Presidential Elections might have been won and lost but the ripple effects of the Supreme Court judgement of Wednesday 30th October, which confirmed the victory of the incumbent, Muhammadu Buhari, has generated much more bitterness from the main opposition party which believed that it actually won the contest according to some spurious results from a “website server” allegedly owned by the umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which conducted the polls! The genesis of the current crisis and bad blood is not far-fetched considering the fact that 91 Political Parties had “bona fide” visas to run at all levels of the election from the national to the wards and which the opposition strongly believed was a positive advantage to edge out Buhari in his second term bid since he refused to bow to pressures to step down!
The organised overtures, manipulations, predictions, prophesies, alignments, confederations, mud-slinging through false news/hate speeches and even gang-ups, orchestrated by those parties, against the President, fell like pack of cards on the election day of 23rd February, 2019!
At every stage of the concluded elections, fundamental rights and the rule of law was judiciously upheld and maintained at every turn up to the apex court and in his inaugural speech, President Buhari magnanimously declared that there was “victor, no vanquished” and added that he was prepared to work with the opposition to take the nation to the NEXT LEVEL that would truly deliver further dividends of democracy to the downtrodden and most economically-vulnerable among the masses of citizens! Since 29th May, 2019, the continuity administration had known no peace, because the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). which rejected the outcome of the presidential election from the Tribunal to the Supreme Court, vowed to work against good governance through all forms of antagonisms, especially by insinuating culpability of human rights violations by agencies of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

NIGERIANS ARE REFUGEES OF FOREIGN COUNTRIES AND INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS (IDPs) OF THEIR OWN COUNTRY!
Sixteen years of maladministration, treasury-looting, official corruption with impunity, 1999-2015, which resulted in mass exodus of Nigerian youths to foreign countries and general BRAIN-DRAIN by professionals who sought for greener pastures outside of the shores of the nation, debuted a generation of disgruntled citizens – mostly uneducated/jobless youths who engaged in disrupting peace in the polity through acts of violence, pipe lines vandalism, brigandage, banditry insurgency and terrorism across the nation!
Are the Internally-Displaced Persons who are still very much with us in their thousands not suffering both deprivation of basic amenities of life and abuse of their fundamental human rights in the hands of FELLOW NIGERIANS?!
From all indications, MAN’S INHUMANITY TO MAN” has made most Nigerians to be culpable of human rights violation against his brothers and sisters! Nigerians should remember that human right is a common inheritance of each individual and subjected to respect and mutual understanding that, “where one’s right ends, the other begins!

ADVOCACY FOR SUCCINCT PUBLIC THEOLOGY!
The blame game must stop now while Nigerians embrace the doctrine of a profound public theology which proffers the following ideologies:
Citizens of Nigeria need a common language of faith in every engagement of governance in the public domain since all of creation is united in God the Omni-presence, Omni-potent, and Omni-science, Who operates in the supernatural.
The people should pay conscious attention to the governing principles and purposes of life which is pivoted on the love of the God of creation and their neighbours from whom all good things flow, instead of trusting the ephemeral and mundane that would provide limited and uneasy comfort!
Political aspirants/business entrepreneurs should not place bets on socio-economic gains to the detriment of an everlasting relationship with the One who blesses without adding sorrow!

NIGERIA’S NEW SECURITY ROADMAP MUST ERADICATE POVERTY!

In spite of the hues and cries, massive protests and demands for the removal of all the Service Chiefs, except the Inspector General of Police who was appointed in 2018, President Muhammadu Buhari, of Nigeria refused to succumb because he trusted their potentials, capabilities, diligence, professionalism/resourcefulness. Instead, he upgraded and rewarded bravery, hard work, resilience and patriotism amongst the rungs of the ladder, for better and unbroken performances, in all theatres of war across the nation!

It is common knowledge that the socio-economic survival of any nation depended largely on the quality of security architecture/services provided by the government in power and Nigeria is not an exception. Insecurity is the absence of peace! It is the prevalence of violence chaos, anarchy, insurgency or terror; and no people or community could survive under such horrible conditions! Nigeria ingested its first dose of insecurity when Military adventurists who had no business in politics or governance took over the mantle of leadership with the barrels of the gun in January 1966!
The ripple effects of maladministration throughout military occupation continued to take its toll even at the debut of another attempt at democracy in the year 1999, because the 30 years of military dictatorship had distorted the psyche of the products of the first set of politicians which had no other choice than to produce a die-hard “retired” Army General, as its number one citizen!

REVIEW OF THE NATIONAL SECURITY ROADMAP DOCUMENT.
Realising that posterity would never forgive this generation of political leaders, if the current trend of threatened security was not reversed, President Muhammadu Buhari, who was the most conscientious, both as military/civilian citizen launched a fresh National Security Roadmap Document on Wednesday, 4th, December, 2019, to revitalize the previous document which was last reviewed in 2014! The document is revised every five years.

DETAILS OF THE REVISED NATIONAL SECURITY STRATEGY 2019!
According to the President, who vowed to further enhance social security, the new document was a product of painstaking and rigorous deliberations by relevant stakeholders which was committed to achieving a safer, more secure Nigeria from internal/external threats. He confessed that the plethora of security challenges confronting the nation, especially the insurgency could become the albatross to national development, investment, growth and prosperity and called on all segments of the society/all elements of the national power to embrace and support the new initiative.
The President specifically addressed efforts at ending the insurgency in the North East and laying the foundation for sustainable peace and development in the region, the conflicts between farmers and herders and banditry! He revealed that the document elicited contributions from security, intelligence, law-enforcement agencies, armed forces including, Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and the civil society adding that overall security entailed unity of purpose because it was a “a bottom to top” operation which must not suffer failure at any level!

PRIORITIES FOR SECOND TERM: Include, pursuit of improvements in education, healthcare and agriculture; enhance social security as a means of improving physical/human security

THE ALMAJIRI THREAT! The National Security Adviser, (NSA), Mohammad Babagana Monguno, while giving an overview of the new Security Strategy Document, raised fresh concern in respect of Almajiri System in the North and opined that it could no longer be swept under the carpet. The retired Army Major General said the issue must be addressed as part of the solution to insecurity in the country before it could become one of the regrettable security threats to the nation!

LATEST WORLD BANK REPORT HINGED ON WEAK HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT, RECESSION/POVERTY AND INSECURITY!
According to its overview on Nigeria’s Economy, the global bank believed that though the country made significant progress in socio-economic terms in recent years, its human capital development remains weak due to under-investment and that it ranked 152 of 157 countries in the World Bank’s 2018 Human Capital Index. (This assessment was no doubt predicated of the seemingly insecurity challenges of the nation!).
*That if international crude oil price slide below US $50 dollars, Nigeria would go into recession! *That by the year 2030, thirty million Nigerians would become poorest of the poor globally!
Comment: World Bank has freedom to publish figments of their imaginations because greedy leaders have not stopped fleecing the nation’s commonwealth to render the vulnerable illiterate masses financially, economically and socially incapacitated!

MEASURES AGAINST WORLD BANK PREDICTIONS BY BUHARI ADMINISTRATION!
The National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, had disclosed at the occasion of the presidential launch of the Security Document that “ a comprehensive approach to address, POVERTY, HEALTHCARE DELIVERY CHALLENGES AND OUT OF SCHOOL CHILDREN, PARTICULARLY THE ALMAJIRI SYSTEM – were all embedded in the new strategy document! He stated that the document also captured current and future threats and has proffered appropriate strategy for government to address them holistically – especially, the security implications in respect of out-of-school-children to safeguard the fast-growing population of youths because the issues of poverty and illiteracy were synonymously linked!
COMMENTS: *The Almajiri phenomenon must no longer be treated with kid gloves - it MUST be addressed headlong to avoid another decade of insurgency/terrorism!
These innocent children MUST be afforded opportunities of FREE AND COMPULSORY early education –Islamic and Western – simultaneously as provided for in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, Chapter II, Section 18, but (“NOT AS AND WHEN PRACTICABLE”), to stimulate their intellectual capabilities from tender ages. They should also be given opportunities in vocational/technical studies, exposed to land cultivation and basic entrepreneurship at secondary levels. (It is their inalienable right!). Government should remember that illiterate street youths who were easily manipulated by some Qura’nic religious turncoats formed the nucleus of the Boko Haram terrorists group, which scars have formed indelible marks on the nation’s socio-economic identity.

Aggressive pursuit of Internally-Generated Revenues (IGRs), through the combined efforts of Federal and State Governments, should occupy the front burner of their economic thrusts while wastages in government through illicit acquisition of wealth at the expense of FREE EDUCATION must cease!

Corruption with impunity should be discouraged as righteous leaders take the lead from henceforth! It is common global knowledge that eradicating poverty in all its forms had been the greatest challenge that faced Africa which accounts for 80% of the people living in extreme poverty and that in spite of efforts by the United Nations and international donor agencies to redress the ugly situation through the platforms of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs, 2000-2015), and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs, 2015-2030), no nation could boast of having achieved 3% success in that direction – though the social goals were quite honourable and achievable! Nigeria must not allow the World Bank/IMF predictions come true by quickly taking the above analyzed intervention steps, very seriously and religiously.

BUHARI WILL TAKE 100 MILLION NIGERIANS OUT OF POVERTY IN 10YEARS!
In October 2019, President Buhari, in anticipation of the security blue-print, promised to take 10 million Nigerians annually from poverty in 10 years; but the idea was greeted with massive disbelief on the social media because he had less than 4 years to end his final term in office!
COMMENTS: We believe that the ambition is practicable when the following drastic measures were implemented: –

(1) Continuous partial land border closure until 2030. If China could do it Nigeria also can! In 1974, there were about 800 million Chinese who lived in poverty but as at 2019, efforts are being intensified by President Xi Jin Ping to remove the less than 20million still in poverty out of that level!
(2) Drastic reduction of civil service/political appointments to cut down on remunerations/allowances, wastages, leakages through annual budget paddings, dubious/questionable contract awards and total cancellation of inexistent CONSTITUENCY PROJECTS for genuine CAPITAL PROJECTS that would benefit the masses!
(3) Upgrade of budget appropriation to the Education Sector to at least 26% of the annual budget in compliance to UNESCO recommendation!
(4) SCRAPPING OF THE NIGERIA SENATE LEGISLATION BEFORE YEAR 2023 AND REDUCTION OF HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES LEGISLATORS TO 74 MEMBERS ON PART-TIME BEFORE THE NEXT ELECTIONS!
(5) Judicious compliance with the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), salary Chart for all government employees at all levels!
(6) Complete stoppage of annual humongous SECURITY VOTES (of at least N300 billion per Governor), cancellation of ridiculous SEVERANCE ALLOWANCES, paid to ex-State Governors and recovery of all monies already paid to them!
(7) Implementation of aggressive agricultural/mineral exploitation revolution must be sold to all Nigerians who must be given lands to cultivate to SUSTAIN FOOD SECURITY and opportunities to explore/exploit natural mineral deposits to boost the nation’s foreign reserve!
(8) The Land Use Act must be reviewed to accommodated all land owners in NON-CADASTRAL AREAS, for them to use their God-given birthright to acquire bank loans for businesses in SMSES to boost the economy!
(9) The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), intervention programmes, especially in the agricultural sector and graduate employment opportunities must be strongly supported by the Federal Government in other to actualize the determination to truly get 10 million Nigerians out of poverty annually, since government administration is a continuum!

The immediate implementation of all these suggestions will definitely provide multiple funds for the Treasury Single Account (TSA), reduce internal/external borrowings/debt servicing and increase employment opportunities for jobless youths and able-bodied adults!
We advocate that President Buhari will give marching orders for quick implementation! Time and tide waits for no man!
