WAS EX-SENATOR ‘SOLA ADEYEYE QUALIFIED TO CONDEMN NIGERIA’S CONSTITUTION?

When a Biology Scientist and former Senator of the 8th National Assembly (NASS), Professor ‘Sola Adeyeye, during a valedictory speech on the floor of the red chambers in April 2019, furiously, outrageously and  vehemently condemned the 1999 Nigerian Constitution and especially the  68 items on the Federal Exclusive Legislative List as contained in Second Schedule Part I,  (as amended), with which he got to the top, by describing them as clogs and obstacles for good governance, we painstakingly assessed his assertions and neither condemned the messenger nor his message because we believed he should know better!

Was it not high time that Nigerians stopped going round in circles as a people to look for scapegoats for our eternal predicaments which, if we were patient to calmly assess, would have discovered that their permanent solutions lie at our door steps?

Has it not become customary for most human beings to blame everybody except themselves when situations or circumstances of life did not favour their whims or caprices – especially when it concerned the basic necessities of life?

But the following truths needed to be digested for proper understanding that man will remain incapable of  enjoying better life as long as CLIMATIC CONDITIONS and not humans  dictate “the wellness or sickness” of the earth and its fullness that are spiritually and supernaturally controlled by the Creator:
As long as the earth remains; sunshine, rainfall, harmattan, winter, storms, tornadoes, hurricanes, monsoon rains, tsunamis, excessive dryness/wetness, uncontrollable wild fires, famine (scarcity of food), etc, would be regular climatic occurrences – either through natural or unnatural causes.
Natural causes are the seasons which will always follow their due cycle while the unnatural are man-induced aggravation through reckless habits of distortion of nature’s landscapes through excavations, trees felling, excessive river dams, blockage of drainages, etc.
According to the spiritual account of creation, God created the Heaven, the Earth and Man in six days and commanded him to take charge through the doctrine of pro-creation, dominion and subjugation of all elements consisting of the vegetations and animals. Religious practitioners have not disputed these facts because subsequent dispensations of human governments had co-existed without rigid divine regulations!

WAS THE PROFESSOR SINCERE IN HIS SUBMISSIONS?
As a professed scientist, we believe that Senator Adeyeye’s  ‘Nunc Dimitis’  at the twilight of his departure was deliberately politicized to keep the social media occupied for that period of time!  Over the years, nature has unleashed incredible and unprecedented violence and man’s diverse activities to ensure good governance were forced to nose-dive in many instances and had attracted vicious criticisms since he had no power to prevent the unkindly visitations especially when they were very overwhelming!

It is a scientific fact that since creation, man and his environment had to co-exist like Siamese twins who must share all things in common although negative climatic conditions could be very unpredictable in the forced union. Annual budgeting and appropriations have become mere global rhetoric, rituals and cosmetics,  because they were never sufficient to meet up with environmental damages inflicted on all sides while pittance goes to social contracts. No country, not even the United States or China can meet challenges of environmental catastrophes and social indebtedness in adequate measures year on year because it is just impossible to cope!

NIGERIA’S INFRASTRUCTURES AT THE MERCY OF ANNUAL FLOODS!
In spite of the fact that Nigeria is lucky to be situated on the African Continent which  is highly favoured with milder climatic changes and conditions, the nation still battles with annual heavy rainfall and devastating floods which all the budgets , (Federal and States), put together could never mitigate!
Since Nigeria falls within the global community, the effects of climate change on World Economy would naturally affect its fortunes due to global over population, immigration, and emigration, massive environmental degradation/pollution resulting in serious epidemic proportions through open defecation in an overstretched and un-sanitized space!

Rivers Niger and Benue, the two major rivers which run down south from the north apart from States Rivers, were annually flooded with devastating economic deficits upon citizens and government. Most of these rivers have never been dredged and when they broke their bands, veered into farmlands, road networks and residences close to their shores!

On annual basis, billions of naira was appropriated to road construction, re-construction, rehabilitation or maintenance during the dry season and in the rainy season, soil erosion and landslides would wash both labour and all public funds down the drain while the masses spend unending hours on short distance journeys. 

Top on the list of major public complaints of annual calamities is the un-passable conditions of Nigerian roads.  In fact protests by over traumatized and aggrieved commuters on Nigerian road networks have become daily occurrences because the much funds ploughed annually into the projects did not yield appropriate dividends to the people over the years! Construction of more road bridges, railways, airways terminals, waterways and ports to reduce pressure on the roads have not come to fruition also!

ADEYEYE’S GROUSE OVER THE CONSTITUTION AND THE FEDERAL EXCLUSIVE LEGISLATIVE LIST!
The professor claimed that the Nigerian Constitution was the problem and could never give peace and progress especially the 68 items on the Federal Exclusive Legislative List which he claimed had virtually held the country by the jugular in a unitary type of government!
But he failed to prove what constituted the albatross in the constitution or the tagged list against other States of the Federation!
CAN THE CONSTRUCTION OF ROADS FOR INSTANCE, BE TRANSFERRED TO A STATE THAT CANNOT PAY WORKERS SALARIES OR FUND SECONDARY HEALTH INFRASTRUCTURE?
Ex-Senator Adeyeye had seen it all, experienced it all, gone through the ranks of the political terrain and has enjoyed the lucre of office especially when he enjoyed two terms at the red chambers, back to back! We want to believe that while in retirement, he would contribute from his immense wealth of political experience to nation building and posterity!
Question: Why do world leaders hold regular summits on Climatic Change issues which ravage all countries and habitations without respect of persons, race, creed or geographical landscape?
Answer: Because no country had the propensity to control turbulent climate rage!
Question: Why is abject POVERTY of several developing nations citizens traced to radical climatic changes?
Answer: Enormous climatic devastation – like annual over-flooding of roads, destruction of farmlands, damaged bridges or submerged dams, submerged or washed off homes and market plazas, destroyed electric poles, hydro-electric power and thermal stations, schools, factories, etc.!In addition outbreak of diseases, sicknesses, infections resulting in epidemic proportions that propelled massive social deprivations!
WAYS TO APPEASE VIOLENT CLIMATE CHANGES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
STOPPAGE TO ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION AND POLLUTION;
NON DEPLETION OF THE OZONE LAYER;
DEFORESTATION;
NUCLEAR WARFARE;
DETONATION OF LETHAL BOMBS INTO THE ATMOSPHERIC SPACE AND GLOBAL RIGHTEOUS GOVERNMENTS ETC.!
“Climate is created to both build and destroy; only God can tame its rage and storm when provoked!”
