IF FRANK KOKORI WERE PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA AND HENRY NWOSU, INEC CHAIRMAN!

[What a Wonderful Country that would have evolved; what a distinguished, progressive and magnificent Nation that would have birthed]!

Frank Ovie Kokori was the former Secretary General of National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers of Nigeria (NUPENG), during the Military junta of the maximum ruler, General Sani Abacha, between 1993 and 1998!
Kokori was an influential union leader and dogged defender of democratic values who held the military government, led by Sanni Abacha, by the jugular through total strike action of all Petroleum Workers over the incarceration of Moshood Abiola in prison.
Leveraging his leadership position at NUPENG, Kokori orchestrated a nine-week strike nationwide by the union of petroleum workers. The industrial action ground the country to a halt.
“Everything in Nigeria moves with petrol and petroleum products, so once there was no petrol, Nigeria was shut down,” Kokori told Punch in 2021.
“That was our strategy, and we controlled the rigs. Though I was a leader in the Nigeria Labour Congress at the time, the NLC betrayed us.
“ So I had to use my industrial union, NUPENG, which had trust in me, and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), ‘the white-collar union.’
“ We had to mobilize because we controlled the whole system. The Nigerian refineries were working full-blown at that time. We were in control of the terminals that were exporting oil, the refineries, tanker drivers, and everything downstream, upstream, and midstream. So, we shut down the country.”!
Kokori was arrested in August of the same year by the military government for masterminding the petroleum workers’ strike and was detained without charges. He was put in solitary confinement in Bama Prison, Maiduguri.
“I’ve done my best for my country. When nobody raised their voice against the military, I came out with the unions to fight for the freedom and democracy of my country,” he said In 2019.
“I stood for this country, and I fought for democracy; and all my years in this country, there were temptations to take the biggest bribes. I stood my ground for democracy.”
In an interview with Punch, he also declared that “without me, there would have been no democracy” in Nigeria.
He was a democrat, activist and a union leader who also fought for the June 12.Kokori died in Warri, Nigeria on December 7, 2023 from kidney related ailment.
THOSE WHO BOLDLY FOUGHT THE MILITARY AND SECURED TRUE DEMOCRACY WERE SIDELINED IN 1999 BY THE SAME SOLDIERS IN “BABAN RIGA” WHO INTRODUCED THE SQUANDERMANIA PRESIDENTIAL INSTEAD OF PARLIAMENTARY SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT TO A VANDALIZED, BASTADIZED AND BROKEN NATION!
THE INDOMITABLE PROFESSOR HENRY NWOSU – A TRUE NIGERIAN HERO!
He was the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Chairman who supervised the only credible presidential election won by late business mogul, Moshood Abiola in 1993!
Humphrey Nwosu (2 October 1941 – 20 October 2024) was a Nigerian civil servant who was chairman of the National Electoral Commission (NEC). Appointed by President Ibrahim Babangida, he held office from 1989 to 1993.
Humphrey Nwosu conducted the 12th June 1993 election which was seen as the freest and fairest election, in which Chief Moshood Abiola won. Nwosu’s Commission introduced the NOVEL OPTION A4 VOTING SYSTEM AND THE OPEN BALLOT SYSTEM.

Nwosu had released many of the election results when he was ordered to stop further announcement by the military regime. In 2008 he published a book in which he claimed that Babangida was not to blame for annulling the election. The book was severely criticized for failing to accurately account for what happened. Nwosu died in Maryland, United States on 20 October 2024, at the age of 83.
PENGASSAN - “THE WHITE-COLLAR UNION”
Chief Frank KOKORI in an interview before his passing described PENGASSAN as “The White Collar Union” – a very derogatory classification of A LILY-LIVERED ENTITY, FEARFUL, EASILY- INTIMIDATED OR ALWAYS FULL OF TREPIDATION in the face of National Crisis such as the one caused deliberately by Military Juntas in Nigeria to prevent A DEMOCRATICALLY-ELECTED GOVERNMENT TO BIRTH (After 30 years of illegal occupation of the same country)!
A white-collar job is an office-based, professional position that involves mental or administrative work instead of physical labor. These jobs, such as those in management, law, and accounting, typically require specialized education and are often SEDENTARY AND SALARIED!
A Civil Service brief involves non-manual, intellectual, and administrative tasks. typically performed in an office environment and often requires specialized skills, professional training, or a college degrees!
THAT WAS AND STILL IS WHAT PENGASSAN REPRESENTS IN 21ST CENTURY NIGERIA!

The “White Collar Union” now wants to continue to REAP where it did not SOW by organizing some dramatized strikes against the politicians briefly during the Jonathan/Buhari Administrations up to the year 2016 but subsequently reclused!
Nigerian GEN Zs who were recently called out to protest against the USD$20 BILLION DOLLARS DANGOTE REFINERIES over its internal Administrative Issue SHUNNED “The White Collar Union” and renamed it “POVERTY ENGINEERING AND GAS SCARCITY ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA”

The misadventure nation-wide strike between, 29th September and 2nd October 2025, reportedly cost the country LOSS of 600,000 barrels of crude and 7-billion cubic feet of gas per day resulting in petrol prices hike to N905 per litre and cooking gas doubling to N2,000 naira per kilogram!
LOCAL REFINERIES LED BY DANGOTE’S 650,000-BARREL-PER-DAY PRODUCTION HAVE COME TO STAY – SCARCITY OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS SHOULD BE CAST INTO OBLIVION!
WE need not remind Trade Unions of limitations to unnecessary and unprovoked strike actions which add to sufferings/miseries of the average Nigerian when petroleum products were in surplus!
Why should they embark on SENSELESS STRIKES that reek of economic sabotage, punishable by up to 25 years in prison under the Terrorism (Prevention) Act?
AND why should they send wrong signals to prospective foreign investors who might still want to consider taking chances in a country notorious for institutional corruption and insecurity!
PENGASSAN should hide in shame for their very disgraceful escapade which depleted economic gains with a whooping sum of NGN75 billion naira per day during the STUNT and count themselves very lucky that they still walk free!
From 1999, Nigerians endured the collapse of government-owned refineries due to institutional corruption, maladministration and the infamous scam of trillions of naira in subsidies, through dependence on fuel importation which resulted in scarcity, inflation, and insecurity.

AND IN ALL THAT PERIOD OF CATASTROPHY, NUPENG /PENGASSAN WORKERS COLLECTED SALARIES FOR LOITERING AROUND THE MORIBUND CRUDE OIL FACILITIES AND YET A WHOOPING USD$1.5 BILLION DOLLARS WAS AWARDED BY LATE BUHARI ‘S ADMINISTRATION FOR “PSEUDO REPAIRS”!
And in this present day a very patriotic Nigerian has taken a very bold step to erase all derelictions of the Oil Industry and he needs our collective support!
DANGOTE Refinery must be cherished as a National Assert.
FOLLOWING THE BOTCHED ATTEMPTED ECONOMIC SABOTAGE ON 2ND OCTOBER 2025, BY PENGASSAN, DANGOTE REFINERY HAS BEGUN TO REPAIR THE STABLE!
With swift intervention, the very first Independent/Indigenous Refinery eased out petrol prices in some parts of the country dropping from around ₦1,500 per liter to about ₦820 which translates to 55 per cent reduction!
Nigerians now breath a fresh air of relief as transport costs and food prices were reduced to previous rates before the SENSELESS STRIKE ACTION!
PENGASSAN had last week shut down critical oil and gas facilities over allegations that Dangote refinery sacked 800 workers who joined the union but the Dangote Management said it only sacked a few workers who were sabotaging the facility, saying this was part of the company’s reorganization.

But PENGASSAN still embarked on the strike in FAKE DEFENSE of their colleagues, causing the nation losses in oil and gas production as well as a drop in power generation.
However the quick intervention of the Federal Government restored normalcy as PENGASSAN suspended the strike after the Dangote Group was asked to redeploy the sacked workers to other business units.
Despite the suspension of the strike that caused queues in filling stations, the price of cooking gas has yet to return to about N900 per kg, as it still sold for N2,000 in Lagos and other places.
WE NEED SANITY FOR ONCE IN NIGERIA AND THE WAY TO GO IS THE ONE-HOUSE PARLIAMENTARY SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT TO DOUSE ALL AGITATIONS AND EMBRACE PEACE!

[EXPECT A PRIME MINISTER IN NIGERIA NOW!]
