THE GLITCHED NATIONAL GRID OF NIGERIA!
Virtually all aspect of Nigerian’s economic and social life is glitched!
The controversy in respect of a “glitch” which allegedly occur during the upload of the 2023 Presidential Result is still generating heat as the 2027 General Elections approach.
A glitch is a small, unexpected, and usually temporary fault, error, or malfunction in a system, software, video game, or electronic device and in this instance – The Power Sector.
Resume of power grid failure in Nigeria
Nigeria’s national electricity grid has experienced frequent total and partial collapses, driven by chronic structural weaknesses and most recently plunging power generation from roughly 3,840 MW down to 477 MW (and lower peaks).
Key Overview of the Crisis
Recent Incidents: The grid has suffered multiple system disturbances and collapses throughout 2024, 2025, and into 2026, including major drops leaving primary power plants (such as Egbin, Jebba, Shiroro, and Kainji) with near-zero output.
Leadership & Oversight: The persistent instability has challenged sector leadership, including former Minister Adebayo Adelabu and current Minister Joseph Tegbe, who took office in mid-2026.
Impact on Distribution (DisCos): During major collapses, most Distribution Companies (DisCos) like Abuja, Ibadan, Ikeja, and Benin receive fractions of their required load or drop to near-zero allocation, forcing widespread blackouts on households and businesses.
Root Causes of Grid Failures
Gas Supply Constraints: Shortages of natural gas and frequent vandalism of gas pipelines starve thermal power stations.
Infrastructure Decay & Vandalism: Aging transmission lines, poor maintenance, and physical attacks on towers weaken the grid’s ability to self-protect or handle frequency spikes.
Inadequate Spinning Reserves: The system lacks sufficient backup capacity to absorb sudden plant trips or line faults, triggering a cascading shutdown across connected stations.
Liquidity and Financial Strain: Underfunding, tariff challenges, and sector debt limit necessary capital investments in grid modernization.
HISTORY OF GRID COLLAPSE IN NIGERIA.
Nigeria’s national electricity grid has experienced over 220 partial and total system collapses between 2010 and recent years, plunging the country into widespread blackouts and severely disrupting homes, factories, and businesses.
Between January 2010 and June 2022, the national grid suffered 222 total and partial collapses.
Annual occurrences ranged from a peak of 42 collapses in 2010 to lower numbers in subsequent years (such as 4 in 2020), though frequency remains chronically high.
Between 2023–2026 the grid has continued to fail repeatedly under successive administrations.
Multiple collapses have hit within short spans—such as multiple incidents across 2024 (including a dozen or more major failures), repeated breakdowns in late 2025 (e.g., December 29, 2025), and multiple collapses in January and September 2026.
The transmission and distribution network managed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is fragile, radial, and underfunded, featuring outdated equipment cannot absorb sudden frequency or voltage shifts (nominal 50Hokz).
• Low Generation & Backup Deficits: Available generation capacity typically hovers around 4,000 to 6,000 MW—far below national demand—leaving the system operating constantly near its breaking point with no reserve margin to cushion faults.
• Vandalism and Theft: Continuous attacks, vandalism, and theft of transmission towers, gas pipelines supplying thermal plants, and electrical installations frequently trigger line trips and systemic shutdowns.
• Lack of Automation (SCADA): The long-delayed deployment of a functional Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and poor real-time coordination hinder fast response to grid disturbances.
REFORMS AND PROPOSED SOLUTIONS
• Electricity Act 2023: Signed to decentralize the power sector, allowing states and private entities to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity independently rather than relying solely on the centralized national grid.
• Infrastructure & Metering Upgrades: Ongoing efforts by the Federal Government and multilateral lenders (such as World Bank interventions) target network stabilization, frequency controls enforced by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), and regional grid segregation.
Despite the huge investment in the power sector, the national grid collapsed about 105 times under the administrations of President Bola Tinubu despite USD$1.4. dollars loans!
Nigeria national grid suffered 222 partial and total system collapses from January 2010 to June 2022.
In four years of his appalling APC Administration, President Tinubu further compounded operation of the Power Sector by appointing non-professionals as Ministers.
It is not too late for the opposition to spring a SURPRISE ON INCUMBENCY AS IT HAPPENED TO BUHARI IN 2015!
Patriots should close ranks and spring a surprise! There could not be a better time THAN NOW!
[EXPECT A PRIME MINISTER IN NIGERIA NOW!]

If you have not accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, don’t miss this great opportunity as you pray this prayer: Lord Jesus; I confess that I am a sinner who needs to be saved through the grace of the New Testament in your Blood, shed on the Cross at Calvary; I renounce every sin in my life and accept you as my Lord and personal Saviour. Please forgive me and write my name in the Book of Life. Amen. If you prayed this prayer, you have been admitted into the family of sons and daughters of God, who are born-again. Congratulations!
