(John.8:32). 2015 GENERAL ELECTIONS MUST PRODUCE IDEALISTIC LEADERS! It is an undisputable fact that there is a WIDE GULF of ideology between an Opposition Political Party and a Civil Rights Organization; yet, if an opposition force is credible and constructive, and civil rights programmes and intentions are genuinely masses oriented, DEMOCRATIC GOVERNANCE in any clime would thrive and succeed! But an Opposition Party in Nigeria, for reasons of failure at elections would rather adopt an offensive posture and would be eager to find faults in every move by the incumbent administration! Goaded by its nomenclature, the Opposition interprets any policy action or inaction of a sitting government from negative perspectives, to always prove ineptitude. Until February 2013, when four major political parties, the Action Congress of Nigeria, [ACN], Congress for Progressive Change, [CPC], All Nigeria Peoples’ Party, [ANPP], and a faction of the All Progressive Alliance, [APGA], merged and fused into the mega ALL PROGRSSIVE CONGRESS, [APC] and brandishing the Independent National Electoral Commission, [INEC’s] approval of July 31 of the same year, there was no serious or credible opposition political party in Nigeria! OUR CONCLUSION IS THAT OUR PRESENT CROP OF POLITICIANS HAVE NO LIVER TO FORM ANY FORMIDABLE OPPOSITION because of the “winner-takes-all” syndrome which permeated the political scene since the new experiment at democracy from 1999, and which has introduced a sinister notion of regarding politics as a lucrative business venture which must be selfishly protected. Losers at elections now prefer to jump ship instead of fusing into a viable, formidable and constructive opposition pressure group, monitor and protect the interests of the poor majority who were usually used and dumped after elections! On Thursday 16 October, 2014, there was a change of guards in Ekiti State where a new Governor was sworn in for a four-year-tenure. Shortly after his inaugural speech SIXTEEN members of the former State Assembly announced their defection to the winning party! A WAVE OF “APOSTACY” HAS TAKEN OVER THE POLITICAL CLIMATE IN NIGERIA, PERILOUS LAST DAYS IN WHICH GREED AND AVARICE HAS BECOME THE NORM! (Please read 2 Thessalonians 3:1-5) THESE POLITICIANS ARE DETERMINED TO PERPETUATE THEMSELVES IN OFFICE THROUGH MANIPULATION OF THE ELECTORAL PROCESSES OF DISENFRANCHISING ELIGIBLE VOTERS FROM THE FORTHCOMING 2015 GENERAL ELECTIONS AND “WIN” WITHOUT ANY FORM OF OPPOSITION! *Do not be deceived by Atiku Abubakar and Muhammad Buhari of the APC, who recently picked forms of intention to contest in the 2015 presidential race. They are only after the position and immense power attached to Nigeria’s prodigal presidential system which caters only for about TWO MILLION OF THE 170MILLION POPULATION! *Did you not witness the post-election atrocities and mayhem, sequel to Buhari’s presidential bid loss in 2007 and 2011 and how he has also threatened that more blood would still flow in 2015 if Jonathan’s PDP government rigged the elections? *Whether it is Buhari, Atiku or Jonathan, the driving force propelling them towards the ASO ROCK NO.1 SEAT is sheer greed and covetousness. They have all tasted presidential power but are INSATIABLE! THE WORD OF GOD SAYS: “Thou shall know the TRUTH and the TRUTH shall set you FREE, (John 8:32); and that glaring GOSPEL TRUTH is that none of these presidential candidates possesses LOVE OR EMPATHY for the poor masses of this nation; they only love themselves, members of their families and cronies! There are credible men and women of impeccable characters in this nation who are ready to serve the masses faithfully and ensure even distribution of the COMMONWEALTH, without fear or favour. This is the most opportune time for Nigerians to close ranks and reject their plans of disenfranchisement and insist on the CONTINUOUS VOTER REGISTRATION (CVR)! Although the Electoral Act 2010, Part III- Section 9(5), stipulates that: “The register of voters, updating and revision of the register of voters under this Section shall stop not later than 60days before any election covered by this Act;” and Section10 (1) says, “……there shall be continuous registration of all persons qualified to be registered voters……”; at designated registration venues; CVR or new registration, was conducted for only SIX DAYS (20-25 August, 2014) in ELEVEN STATES –Bauchi, Yobe, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kwara, Ebonyi, Anambra, Ondo, Oyo, Delta, Cross River and Federal Capital Territory[FTC], by INEC and stopped, SIX MONTHS TO THE 2015 GENERAL ELECTIONS! In spite of massive protests and petitions across these States and FCT, INEC maintained that it would not entertain further CRV until after the 2015 elections! On Friday 17 October, 2014, INEC announced that the Third and final phase of the distribution of the Permanent Voters Cards [PVCs], would take place from 7 9 November, 2014, in 13 States, namely: Lagos, Kano, Rivers, Adamawa, Borno, Edo, Imo, Kaduna, Katsina, Nassarawa, Niger, Ogun and Plateau. This exercise would be immediately followed by CVR in the affected States for only FIVE DAYS, from 13-17 November, 2014. INEC claimed that PVCs and CRV exercises were earlier conducted in Ekiti and Osun States because of the governorship elections held recently and had also distributed and conducted the PVCs and CRV exercises in 21 States and FCT this year, in the Phases I and II of the electoral programme! Not withstand that INEC has flagrantly abused the electoral process by delaying until few months before conducting these vital masses franchise exercises, which the Electoral Act STIPULATES AS CONTINUOUS, its management still has the audacity to issue the following warning quoted bellow: “The electoral commission warns that only electorates with permanent voter cards will be allowed to vote during the 2015 general elections and advises eligible voters to cross check their names in the displayed voters register. “Those who registered before but do not see their names in the displayed register are to register during the continuous voter registration exercise. “The CVR exercise is not for those who wish to transfer. Those wishing to transfer should write to the resident electoral commissioner [REC] in their new states of domicile well before the election, as no transfer will be approved less than 30 days before the election”! *The Commission also advised those who have lost their cards to similarly communicate in writing to the REC of the local government area of their registration for a replacement which must be done not less than 30 days before to the election. *The meaning of continuity is a progression that should not be bridged or breached! The Electoral Act 2010 as amended is very clear in its statutory stipulation that VOTERS REGISTRATION EXERCISES MUST BE ON A CONTINUOUS BASIS FROM ONE ELECTION PERIOD TO ANOTHER; but from all indications from 1999 to 2014, there had been an orchestrated plan to always disenfranchise eligible voters in every election so that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party [PDP], will remain perpetually in power! *Is it not very obvious that Professor Attahiru Muhammad Jega and his INEC Management Team are playing other scripts outside of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act 2010? *Can INEC, as the electoral body responsible for the forthcoming general elections’ claim they are not being intimidated to destroy the Nigerian Dream of a free nation, detached from the shackles and manacles of 100% Corruption which most politicians of this dispensation represent? *Before he assumed office on 8 June, 2010, Jega had a distinguished record of being a left-wing, or socialist-inclined, radical personality of a reformer who believed very much in the welfare of the masses unlike his predecessor, Maurice Iwu, who was adjudged to have conducted the worst election in the annals of this nation! * With INEC’s disobedience to the letter and spirit of the Electoral Act 2010 which Jega swore to uphold, can this former President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities [ASUU], be further trusted to righteously and faithfully conduct the 2015 elections? *Can this defiant who vehemently opposed Ibrahim Babangida’s Military Government in the 1990s, muzzle his innate marxism ideals against these desperados in government? *Voter and Civic education has become imperative now if citizens must prevent the forthcoming 2015 elections from going the way of the others since 1999! *All Civil Society and Civil Rights Organizations MUST intensify efforts to move en-mass to educate voters especially at the grassroots and ensure that they are fully prepared to elect only credible candidates into positions of governance! *We need not emphasize that to ensure democratic and successful elections, voters needed to be sufficiently knowledgeable and well-informed on the electoral process of how to identify credible politicians and political parties through their ideologies, manifestoes and most importantly on how to check their antecedents and pedigrees! *Globally, it is the fundamental duty and primary responsibility of a sincere government and its election management team to educate citizens on all aspects of voting up to their civic duties on election days, but where there is deliberate plan to disenfranchise the Citizens, Non-Governmental Organisations [NGO’s], MUST intervene with Godly precision to bridge the gap! *We recommend creative approaches of spreading the 2015 general elections information through educative posters, leaflets, hand bills, tracts and public awareness activities of radio jingles, songs, comic strips on television and internet campaigns; to ensure that all eligible voters – especially, the RURAL MEN AND WOMEN, have access to the needed information and participate intelligently in the voting process! *On Wednesday, 28 November, 2012, Attahiru Jega told Nigerians that, CONTINUOUS VOTERS REGISTRATION [CVR] EXERCISE, WOULD COMMENCE NATION-WIDE; but the first set of the inconclusive CVR exercise took place for only SIX DAYS in 11States and FCT, in August, 2014! *JEGA cannot afford to be compromised! As a tested and proved intellectual of very credible, impeccable and outstanding pedigree; [though it is said that “every man has a price”,] we of this editorial board, put our integrity on the line, that JEGA would not disappoint the TALAKAWAS of this great nation! *Hear the WORD OF GOD, ATTAHIRU: “Thus saith the LORD to His anointed, to Attahiru, whose right hand I have holden to subdue the ELECTION RIGGERS before him: …… I will go before thee, into 2015 and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron which they have structured to impede your integrity; I the LORD have spoken!” Amen. *Nigerians need to vote for righteous and upright leaders who would correct the negative image of CORRUPTION which has stuck upon this nation like LEACH and steer our fragile democracy ship across the turbulent seas, storms and swarms of marine predators of the deep, to a coastal shore of economic buoyancy, security, peace, tranquillity and stability! *Have you noticed how our YOUTHS (future Nigerian leaders), are being transformed into NAIRA HUNTER AMBASSADORS AND HOW THEY WERE PRESENTED AS SHRINE SACRIFICES AT THE EAGLE SQUARE ON SATURDAY 18 OCTOBER, 2014, BY THE CHIEF PRIEST WHO LOST HIS VOICE THROUGH DIVINE INTERVENTION? *Did you know that, at the last count, there were over 500 Youth Groups who have been brainwashed with the Doctrine of Continuity Cross-country Rallies – though they have no CREDENTIALS, which are, concrete evidences of exposure to quality and continuous education or regular employments promised to graduates during the last elections to show for their troubles! From all indications these Youths forgot the Word of God which says: “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them. While the sun or the light, or the moon or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain.”[Ecclesiastes.12:1-2]. *But, did they not receive momentary cash rewards which may be “sufficient gratuity to secure their future?” Definitely, those politicians, who thrive in manipulating Nigerian Youths to despise moral and spiritual values, and embrace the worldly pursuit of monetary gains, will have GOD to contend with because no sinner will escape divine punishment! Amen.
