“IT'S TIME TO WAKE UP FROM YOUR COMA –‘WOLE SOYINKA, ‘BOLAJI AKINYEMI, PAT UTOMI!”

ZION B-BC   NEWSLETTER.

(Looking at Nigeria and the World's Political System From a Godly Perspective).

A Publication of the Zion Faith Bible-Believing Church Kpeyegyi Abuja Nigeria {Vol. 11.NO 455. 1st May, 2022.} “…ONLY The Truth, Will Set You Free! (John.8:32).  PRAY & FAST EVERY WEDNESDAY TO STOP BLOODSHED IN NIGERIA!

“IT'S TIME TO WAKE UP FROM YOUR COMA –‘WOLE SOYINKA, ‘BOLAJI AKINYEMI, PAT UTOMI!”

From Independence no single political party was able to form a government at the centre without numerical support from others.
In 1960, the Northern People’s Congress (NPC) formed an alliance with National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC), to form a National Government in which majority Northern Representatives dominated the political space to the detriment of vibrant political ideologies and intellectualism which was the hallmark of the South!

The Action Group, a South-West political party dominated by articulate membership, was sidelined in the merger because it was convenient for NPC to fly with a bird of the same feather!

And whereas what the nation desired was neither the dominance of TWO mega parties nor  the proliferation of motley associations but of people of vision, ideas/ideals skills, diligence, innovation, inventions etc, that will move governance and economy in the right directions to the benefit of the masses for egalitarianism.

However, Dr.Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo Chief Ladoke Akintola, the Sadauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Chief Anthony Enahoro and several other distinguished Nigerians were all founding fathers among several articulate patriots of the post independence period who believed in a bonded Nigeria in spite of its social/cultural diversities, they all decided to accommodate the political scenario/arrangement for what it was worth!

BUT the idea that a supposed Northern demographic majority must always have political dominance over other components of the Nigerian Federation MUST be ɗefeated to call the BLUFF that no Southern President could emerge without the support of the North!

Political pundits have always blamed the imbalance in governance at the Federal level between the North and the South to the deliberate thrust of power into the hands of the North by the British colonial masters in the years leading to and following independence.

There were three cabinets. The first was established in 1957 when Alhaji Abubakar Tafawa Balewa was appointed Prime Minister by the British Governor-General. The second was formed after the General Elections of December 1959 just before independence in a coalition government. And the third was formed after the disputed General Elections of December 1964 and was dissolved after the military coup of 15th January 1966!

Following 13 years of military rule in 1979, another northern politician in the person of Alhaji Shehu Shagari who was the flag bearer of the National Party of Nigeria, (NPN), who narrowly defeated Chief Obafemi Awolowo of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), and held sway from 1979 to 1983 before he was overthrown by Major General Muhammadu Buhari, at the beginning of his second term in office!

The TWO mega parties were relegated to the archives while Buhari tried his hand on some Socialist ideologies before being ousted in another military coup in 1984 by General Ibrahim Babangida!

THE MILITARY PRESIDENT IBRAHIM BABANGIDA AND HIS TWO EXPERIMENTAL PARTIES!

Retired General of the Nigerian Army, Ibrahim Babangida was a Military President of Nigeria from 1985 until his resignation in 1993.
He had to form TWO “detribalized political parties” named Social Democratic Party of Nigeria (SDP), and National Republican Convention (NRC), as part of a democracy project which he foisted through manipulative agenda to further perpetuate himself in office indefinitely but which turned out during the 1993 Presidential Election to be his albatross!

Because the idea of two mega parties was rooted in governance to run national affairs, SDP and NRC were doctrined to be one slightly to the left and the other slightly to the right in ideologies when they were both founded in December 1989 after 13 prospective parties were banned by his administration in order to create room for his new experiment!

He encouraged the youths and radical intellectuals including socialist groups to join the parties which manifesto was precipitated on social justice and an improved welfare package for all citizens!

BUT THE ‘WOLE SOYINKAS, BOLAJI AKINYEMIS, JIDE OSUNTOKUNS, PAT UTOMIS OF NIGERIA NEITHER BELIEVED THE SOLDIERS NOR THE POLITICIANS!

As far as these set of academicians were concerned, Nigerian politics was a dirty game especially when institutional corruption, was always celebrated, election rigging, ballot box snatching, murders, assassinations and blood shedding became weapons of electioneering from campaigns to declaration of results!

So what was their resolve? From one administration to another they watched from a distance. Some of them picked up appointments from the military like Professor Wole Soyinka the Nobel laureate who in 1977 supported the military administration in Oyo State Nigeria to establish the Oyo State Road Safety Corps which made some local significant improvements in road safety and road discipline in the State. Professor Bolaji Akinyemi took up appointment as Minister for the Ministry of External Affairs but others just left everything to fate!

But at the exit of the military which handed over to a retired General Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999 political watchers noticed the insincerity of the khaki boys who still wanted to participate in civilian democracy And true to speculations the cabinets at the Federal and State levels including the legislative houses  - the Senate and the House of Representatives - were filled with retired soldiers who claimed to have become Democrats of the TWO emerging parties – Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and All Progressives Congress (APC).

AND NOW a clarion call for a THIRD POLITICAL FORCE to take over power from THE RULING PARTY AND THE OPPOSITION is gaining momentum BUT WE ARE NOT UNMINDFUL THAT THE PROPONENTS are the political jobbers who would rather prefer the status quo to remain!
Presidency is DEAD in Nigeria and should be laid to REST!

TWENTY-TWO YEARS OF PRESIDENCY IN NIGERIA HAS TURNED THE NATION INTO A LAUGHING STOCK LABELLED AS THE POVERTY CAPITAL OF THE WORLD!

For a developing country such as Nigeria a PRESIDENTIAL GOVERNMENT should not have been an option therefore all the intellectuals that have been mentioned in the preceding paragraphs must now wake up to support the campaign for REFERENDUM  CLAUSE TO BE URGENTLY INSERTED in the existing 1999 MILITARY PRESIDENTIAL CONSTITUTION so that all restructuring agitations by well-meaning and patriotic Nigerians would be decided by the citizens without rancor or bloodshed and every insecurity will come to an end!

The current crop of Nigerian politicians are very much aware that the only solution to the persistent insecurity in the country is the ADOPTION OF A PARLIAMENTARY SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT THROUGH A BRAND NEW UNICAMERAL PARLIAMENTARY CONSTITUTION  which is virtually cost-free but they prefer prodigality in order to squander the God-given resources of the Nation for themselves and their cronies!

A CALL TO NATIONAL DUTY  TO THE INTELLECTUALS - FOR URGENT ACTUALIZATION OF THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS!

A BILL FOR THE ENACTMENT OF A UNICAMERAL PARLIAMENTARY CONSTITUTION WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT TO BE USED IN THE CONDUCT OF THE 2023 GENERAL ELECTIONS BY THE INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION (INEC), WITHOUT FURTHER DELAY!

THE NEW PARLIAMENTARY CONSTITUTION (TO BE DRAFTED WITHIN THREE MONTHS), SHOULD BE TAILORED TO OUR LOCAL NEEDS TO EFFECTIVELY ERASE THE PRESENT BICAMERAL SYSTEM THROUGH THE DISSOLUTION OF THE SENATE, THE GOVERNORSHIP STRUCTURE AT STATE LEVELS AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS IN THE GRASSROOTS.

IT SHOULD IDENTIFY DESIRED NUMBERS OF REPRESENTATIVE PARLIAMENTARIANS TO BE ELECTED FROM THE SIX GEO-POLITICAL ZONES AND FROM WHOM A PRIME MINISTER WILL EMERGE!

A parliamentary system of government is grassroot-friendly and gives opportunity for all citizens from all cadres of life to participate and contribute effectively in the governance of their country. Most parliamentary governments of the world are very successful. Britain, Austria, India, Bangladesh Bulgaria Czech Republic Ethiopia Finland Germany Greece to mention a few practise this system and have been growing and flourishing economically with virtually zero tolerance for crimes and criminality!

Unlike the presidential system, Prime Ministers may be removed from power whenever they lose the confidence of a majority of the ruling party or of the Parliament. The parliamentary system originated in Britain and was adopted in several of his former colonies. It was practiced between 1957-1966 in Nigeria before the military truncated the new democracy!
PATRIOTIC NIGERIANS EXPECT OUR INTELLECTUALS TO ACT SWIFTLY WITH WISDOM AND PRECISION TO ACTUALIZE THE PARLIAMENTARY SYSTEM WHICH IS THE ONLY PANACEA TO COMPLETELY ERASE THE PERSISTENT INSECURITY WHICH HAS CONSUMED BOTH THE CITIZENS AND THE ECONOMY OF NIGERIA AT AN ALARMING RATE. THERE IS NO TIME TO WASTE!
“With God, all things are possible!” Amen.

[WATCH OUT FOR A NIGERIAN PRIME MINISTER – NOT A PRESIDENT IN 2023!]
