DIEZANI ESCAPED EFCC IN 2015 – NOW FACES BRITISH COURTS IN 2025!
The long arm of the law has finally caught up with Nigeria’s fugitive former female Petroleum Minister in London! Although it took a decade of very diligent and meticulous investigations by the British Police to unravel accusations of bribery and corruption against her as a public servant!
Allison-Maduake escaped to London in 2015 in spite of the eagle-eye network of the Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Detectives!
But unlike statute-barred civil cases which could be terminally terminated after a period of time, criminal proceedings are prone to litigation forever as long as accused person or persons are alive!
On arrival in London the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency (NCA), swung into action and unravel the fugitive’s mission in the City!
She was first arraigned in court in 2015, but was granted bail while further investigations continued.
PLEASE FIND BELOW DETAILS OF BBC AFRICA REPORT OF AUGUST 2023, WHEN SHE WAS CHARGED WITH BRIBERY.
The NCA working on suspicion that the former Nigerian Minister accepted financial rewards for awarding multi-million dollar oil and gas contracts, froze assets worth millions of pounds relating to the alleged offences as part of their ongoing probe.
The NCA says Diezani Alison-Madueke, who served as Oil minister from 2010 until 2015, is alleged to have benefited from:
At least £100,000 ($127,000) in cash, Chauffeur-driven cars, flights on private jets, luxury family holidays, use of multiple London properties, furniture, renovation work and staff for the properties, payment of private school fees, gifts from designer shops such as Cartier jewelry and Louis Vuitton goods.
The US Department of Justice was also reported to have recovered assets totaling $53.1m linked to Diezani’s alleged corruption.
IN JANUARY 2026 – AFTER TEN YEARS OF DODGING THE LONG ARMS OF THE LAW, THE SUSPECT WAS FORMALLY ARRAIGNED!
The suspect was formally arraigned on 29th January 2026 before a British Court to answer to the charges.
Following her tenure as Petroleum Minister, she has been subject to extensive investigations regarding corruption, bribery, and money laundering allegations by agencies including the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA).
BELOW ARE MEDIA REPORTS ON DIEZANI’S PROSECUTION.
According to the Prosecuting Counsel, Alexandra Healy KC, the case was about bribery in relation to the oil and gas industry in Nigeria between 2011 and 2015.
“Those interested in the award and retention of lucrative oil and gas contracts provided significant financial and other advantages to Alison-Madueke.
“There is a strong public interest in ensuring that conduct in this country does not further corruption in another country,” she added.
Jurors were shown photographs of a Buckinghamshire property known as The Falls, bought in 2010 by Nigerian businessman Olajide Omokore, owner of Atlantic Energy.
The court heard that from late 2011, Alison-Madueke allegedly had exclusive use of the property, which included a cinema room, staying there several times and spending about six weeks writing a book. The costs, including about £300,000 in refurbishments, were allegedly paid by Tenka Limited.
Prosecutors further said that between May 2011 and January 2014, about £500,000 was paid in rent for two flats in central London occupied by Alison-Madueke and her mother, with company records allegedly showing that Tenka settled the bills.
Alison-Madueke (65), is standing trial alongside oil executive Olatimbo Ayinde, 54, who faces one count of bribery relating to her and another of bribing a foreign public official.
Her brother, Doye Agama, 69, a former archbishop, is charged with conspiracy to commit bribery and is attending the trial by video link for medical reasons.
All three defendants have denied the charges. The trial is expected to last 12 weeks for JUSTICE to be carried out diligently according to the LAW!
MEDIA REPORTS ON THE DEFENSE.
Diezani was just ‘rubber-stamp’ for oil contracts under Jonathan, her Lawyer tells UK court.
Mrs Alison-Madueke served as Nigeria’s oil minister from 2010 to 2015 under the Jonathan administration.
Counsel Jonathan Laidlaw, rejected the allegations that she exercised decisive control over major oil sector deals, saying she was just a ‘rubber stamp’ when she served as oil minister in the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
He told jurors at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday 29th January 2026 that Mrs Alison-Madueke did not have the authority to award lucrative government contracts.
Mr. Laidlaw told the court that, as a minister, her role was to approve oil and gas agreements granted by the government.
REUTERS reported that he described her as a mere “rubber stamp” for official recommendations.
Alison-Madueke served as Nigeria’s oil minister from 2010 to 2015 under the Jonathan administration. She also chaired the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in 2014–2015. She fled to London after the Peoples Democratic Party lost the 2015 presidential election.
In the UK, the former minister is on trial on corruption charges, having been earlier charged in 2023 with five counts of accepting bribes and one count of conspiracy to commit bribery.
UK authorities say the charges are linked to the award of oil and gas contracts during her tenure as Petroleum Minister.
But she has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including accepting bribes and conspiracy to commit bribery.
The trial could carry significant penalties if she is convicted. Under the UK Bribery Act, she can face up to 10 years in prison and/or an unlimited fine.
In Nigeria, the courts have ordered the forfeiture of properties worth billions of naira linked to Mrs Alison-Madueke. The anti-graft agency, EFCC, argues that it has evidence of her roles in several corruption cases. However, her absence from the country has stalled her prosecution.
DIEZANI is married to Rear Admiral Allison Madueke (retired), a former Chief of Naval Staff and military governor as a SECOND WIFE.
Allison Amaechina Madueke (born 1944) is a retired Nigerian naval officer. He served as Chief of the Naval Staff of Nigeria from 1993 to 1994, Military Governor of Anambra State, January 1984 to August 1985, and Imo State Military Governor from 1985 to 1986.
The retired Chief of Naval Staff had distanced himself from Media Controversy in respect of his wife’s ten-year scandalous ordeal.
ADDENDUM.
WE said it before in one of our past Publications that “Nigeria Is The Bastard Child of Britain”, and WE have always been proved RIGHT!
COULD DIEZANI HAVE PULLED THIS KIND OF STUNT IN BRITAIN?
At independence in 1960, Nigeria adopted a Westminster-style parliamentary democracy, a federal system with a ceremonial Governor-General (representing the Queen) and an elected Prime Minister as head of government, a structure similar to Britain’s, but with power distributed among three large regions, transitioning to a republic in 1963 with a President as Head of State, before military coups ended the era in 1966.It is obvious that Each Founding Father had his ETHNIC AGENDA and instead of copy-paste the very successful PARLIAMENTARY SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT of the Parent Nation on 1st October 1960 - collectively agreed to go their separate ways in a Regional arrangement – similar to the discarded Lord of the Manor practice of the Small Land Owners of Anglo-Saxon and Norman England!
In three years, the country transited into a Republic and adopted the very expensive PRESIDENTIAL SYSTEM for the developing nation and fell into hands of ambitious gun totters!
We need to go back to the DRAWING BOARD! There are millions of Patriotic Nigerians prepared work for FREE IN A ONE – HOUSE PARLIAMENTARY SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT THROUGH REFERENDUM – if only the President could muster the GUTS TO TAKE THE DECISION!
“A stitch in time saves nine!”
[EXPECT A PRIME MINISTER IN NIGERIA NOW!]
