Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, a product of political patronage has thrown in the towel but shamelessly believes he could remain relevant in Oyo, his home State where he woefully failed twice to become Governor - 2015 & 2019 respectively!
For the records, Adebayo was a Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria before venturing into politics, hired and posted to handle Cable and Wires to keep Electricity working as Minister of Power!
In addition to his portfolio, he was to accompany his crafty principal who has boasted to fix Power in Four Years or be Kicked Out of Office, to borrow more money in Japan in August 2025, to fulfill his Campaign Promise!

1960-2026 NIGERIA POWER SECTOR REMAINED AN ALBATROSS!
*Four Refineries remain comatose!
*Obasanjo allocated an outrageous sum of USD$16 billion dollars to revamp the Power Sector through foreign interventions but all investment was consumed in corruption because organized Cabal at the highest levels of government mismanaged the humongous sum!
*Late Buhari, emerged to clear the Augean Stable of the Sector to no avail and gave up!
*BUT TINUBU AND ADELABU BELIEVE THEY COULD SUCCEED WHERE OTHERS FAILED!
Mission: Borrow more money.
Dateline: 22nd August 2025:
Location: Yokohama, Japan.
Borrower: Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Amount required: USD$283 million dollars loan aimed at expanding Nigeria’s Electricity Transmission Network and Strengthening the National Grid.
From information at our disposal the duo took advantage of the year 2025th Edition of the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), in Yokohama to perfect their agenda!
*Let’s digress a bit: From the 2022-2023 Campaign Boasting of Alhaji to August 2025 equals – 27 months.
*And from August 2025 to April 2026 – equals 08 months – total = 35 months.
Balance from 48 Months of Boast – 13 months.
NB: But Adebayo Adelabu has thrown in the towel and now in Ibadan to gamble for the number one seat!
QUESTION:
How will the TRIPOD Loans of USD$ 283 million dollars from Japan for:
1) Electricity Grid expansion .
2) USD$190 million dollars renewable energy loan facility for Solar Mini Grids, also from Japan and,
3) USD$ 750 million dollars World Bank assistance for the same Renewal Energy for about 17 million Nigerians – totaling USD$12,223, dollars be equated to the USD$ 20 billion already expended without RESULTS to revamp a comatose Power Sector of 66 years?
A daring venture of such advanced SCAM can only be perfected by Two Gurus - A Certified Accountant Graduate from Chicago State University and a Harvard Economic Graduate - USA!
ADEBAYO ADELABU’S ANTECEDENT.
Adebayo’s grandfather, late Adegoke Adelabu popularly known as “Penkelemes”, (3rd September 1915 – 25th March 1958), was a prominent personality in the politics of Ibadan city and subsequently that of the Western Region of Nigeria before Nigeria’s Independence in 1960.
He was Nigeria’s Minister of Natural Resources and Social Services from January 1955 to January 1956 and was later the Opposition Leader in the Western Regional Assembly until his death in 1958.
According to Wikipedia, he was a self-made man born into a humble family but became an influential figure in Nigerian politics.
He attended Government College, Ibadan and eventually became a businessman. His successful political career was cut short when he was killed in a car crash, not long before Nigeria gained independence from Britain.
On the other hand, his grandson Adebayo Adelabu OFR (born September 9, 1970) was a former deputy governor, operations of the Central Bank of Nigeria who eventually served as the Federal Minister of Power of Nigeria, 21st August 2023 – 22nd April 2026.
He was also an Oyo State gubernatorial candidate for the All Progressives Congress in 2019 .
With an invaluable experience as Deputy Governor Operations, Central Bank of Nigeria from April 9, 2014 – May 24, 2018, Adebayo was perfectly suitable to successfully negotiate international loans but as Minister of Electricity Power, he was a fish out of the pond!
AND THAT WAS WHY NATIONAL GRID KEPT COLLAPSING – 2023-2026!
Nigeria’s national power grid has continued to experience frequent, and often total, system collapses between 2023 and early 2026, leading to widespread, persistent blackouts and reliance on alternative power sources.
Despite efforts to reform the sector through the 2023 Electricity Act, the grid remains fragile, suffering from aging infrastructure, inadequate maintenance, and severe transmission constraints.
QUESTION.
What happened to both the Japanese and World Bank Loans?

“Alhaji Bola shot himself in the foot during the 2023 Presidential Campaign when he boasted of fixing the age-old electricity quagmire in the space of FOUR YEARS or be shown the exit door! “As WE Predicted in our last week’s Edition 617, pages 3-4, his major concern at the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), was not in the interest of the downtrodden but to borrow more money to fester his Presidential ego and WE have been proven right!”
RECORDS OF NATIONAL GRID COLLAPSE (2023–2026)!
Early 2026 Crisis: The grid collapsed multiple times in January 2026. Major incidents occurred on January 23rd, January 27th (the second in four days), and following a previous collapse on December 29th, 2025. These incidents caused national blackouts, affecting all 11 distribution companies (DisCos).
The national grid collapsed 12 times throughout 2025, continuing the trend of instability and forcing businesses and households to rely heavily on expensive generators.
2023-2024 Context: The grid saw regular failures in 2024 after a period of relative stability, with systemic issues related to inadequate generation and transmission capacity remaining unresolved.
CAUSES OF FREQUENT GRID COLLAPSE!
*Aging Infrastructure due to decades of under investment have left transmission lines and substations, such as the Gombe sub-station, vulnerable to failure.
*Technical faults and maintenance resulting in frequent “system disturbances” or “line tripping”!
*Generation constraints always caused through imbalances between energy supply and demand, with power sometimes dropping drastically to extremely low levels (e.g., from 3,825MW to 39MW).
*Operational deficiencies through lack of adequate, real-time monitoring and control, leading to uncontrolled system shut-downs to prevent total damage.
*Economic disruption through inconsistent outages which disrupt healthcare, small businesses, and manufacturing, leading to increased costs due to high fuel consumption by generators.
However in response to all of the above, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) frequently cited technical faults as major cause while Government through the Minister of Power, claimed to have engaged in projects to improve metering and distribution to boost sector liquidity.
*PROPOSED SOLUTIONS.
Experts and stakeholders emphasize:
1) The need for privatization of transmission,
2) Decentralization of power generation, and
3) Massive investment in infrastructure to prevent future collapses and
4) Putting round pegs in round holes through hiring of tested and proven professionals!
