WILL ALHAJI (C-IN-C) NOT PROTECT THE FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY (FCT) FROM ISWAP!
Terrorism is synonymous to military coup and is forbidden by the Constitutions of all universal nations.
While the Commander -In-Chief was de-radicalizing 744 former terrorists in Gombe North East Nigeria, mid -April, news broke that Islamic terrorist affiliated to ISWAP were planning to attack the Airport and Prison facilities in Abuja and Niger State according to an internal memo released by the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS)!
Specific date or time were not disclosed for the attacks being planned by these terrorists of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), Sadiku-led Boko Haram faction, Ansaru and Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal- Muslimeen (JNIM).
Constitutional duties of the Nigerian Customs Service include but not limited to adequate eagle-eye security checks at all entry/departure points ie. Airports, Seaports, Land borders with neighboring Countries with the aim of detecting any form of illicit cross-border entry or smuggling of illegal firearms and counter such swiftly, professionally and with alacrity!
According to reports on the social media from mid-April, 2026, some of these notorious groups caused mayhem last year both at the Shiroro Local Government Area and the Kainji Lake National Park, Niger State where the kidnapping of about 300 students and staff of the St. Mary’s Catholic Secondary School, Papiri was credited to them!
LACK OF ADEQUATE SECURITY AT THE KUJE CORRECTIONAL FACILITY, NEAR ABUJA, PROVIDED ISWAP EASY ACCESS IN 2022!
On 5th July 2022, the ISWAP launched a coordinated attack on Kuje Correctional Facility, near the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory, Abuja in which five people were killed and 879 inmates freed, although almost half were recaptured in the following days according to Wikipedia.
Kuje Correctional Facility is one of the largest prisons in Abuja, and in the months leading up to the attack, over 5,000 prisoners had been released in prison breaks orchestrated by various militant groups.
On the day of the attack, there were 65 military, police, and prison guards on duty at the prison where 994 prisoners including high-profile suspects along with 68 convicted Islamic State and Boko Haram militants!
There was also no CCTV footage in the prison prior to the attack. A former Boko Haram detainee speaking to Institute for Security Studies stated that he was in contact with ISWAP members outside the jail through cellphones, and that they “communicated easily.”
On the fateful day, 100 Islamic State militants, with the aid of Ansaru, launched three simultaneous attacks around the prison facility using small arms and explosive devices broke in, destroyed parts of the prison and burnt eight vehicles.
One bomb at the front gates killed a Nigerian prison guard and injured three others, and four inmates were killed during the attack according to reports.
Overall, a total of 16 officers and inmates were injured in the attack.
Of the 994 present at the time of the attack, 879 inmates broke out, however 443 were recaptured by the following day.
ISWAP claimed responsibility for the attack and called it “Breaking the Walls campaign”.
URGENT PROACTIVE MEASURES BY THE CUSTOMS AND OTHER SECURITY AGENCIES MUST BE PRIORITIZED NOW!
In quick response to the planned assaults, the Customs has called for enhanced security measures and increased patrols around critical infrastructures, particularly its FCT Command and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja.
It also directed its operatives to “strengthen surveillance and protective coverage” around the airport and other strategic assets within the FCT and its environs.
“All visitors to Customs Commands and facilities should be thoroughly screened, and persons without a plausible reason for visits should not be granted access,” the memo instructed.
The Customs also instructed operatives to “emplace proactive and coordinated measures, and” preempt and mitigate “any potential threats” to all identified vulnerable points within their areas of
The Customs also instructed operatives to “emplace proactive and coordinated measures,” and preempt and mitigate “any potential threats” to all identified vulnerable points within their areas of responsibility.
The Customs also directed specialised units—including anti-smuggling teams in Zones B and D, the Customs Police Unit (CPU), and the Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU)—to deploy reinforcements to secure the Customs Headquarters, its FCT commands, and other critical assets within the identified target areas through coordinated patrols and enhanced surveillance.
“Patrol teams should maintain constant communication with CENTRAL COMMAND to ensure safety,” the memo said. “Visiting rounds officers are hereby directed to confirm availability of all officers assigned to guard duty.”
Noting that the matter be treated with urgency, the Customs advised that any suspicious movement should be reported immediately.
PREVIOUS SIMILAR ATTACKS IN ABUJA AND NIGER!
There have been similar attacks in Abuja and neighboring Niger State, where at least three insurgent groups and bandits hold sway.
On 30th October 2022, terrorists attempted to breach the Wawa Cantonment, a military detention facility in Borgu LGA of Niger State believed to be holding numerous insurgents, in a bid to free their captured comrades.
The attack was repelled, and many of the attackers were killed or arrested.
The failed assault came months after a coordinated attack on the Kuje Correctional Centre by ISWAP, Boko Haram and Ansaru, which led to the release of no fewer than 64 terrorists.
Sources indicate that many of those freed were ISWAP members linked to a Kogi-based cell; some are believed to have later aligned with Ansaru group.
PRISON BREAKS IN NIGERIA!
Prison breaks are unlawful and in Nigeria were often the result of attacks by terrorist groups, including Boko Haram, or armed robbers, leading to the release of inmates.
Reasons for the unlawful acts in Nigeria had been adduced to systemic challenges such as corruption, underfunding of correctional facilities, and inadequate infrastructure.
Many prisons lack essential security features such as closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance, motion detectors, high perimeter walls with barbed wire, and electrified fences.
The Kuje Correctional Facility which is now going through a face lift fits into the above category.
Other factors contributing to prison breaks include overcrowding in correctional facilities and delayed trials leading to frustration among awaiting-trial inmates, a situation always exploited by external aggressors and organized groups.
In many cases, prison breaks are linked to concentration of high-profile criminals in particular facilities such as the Kuje prison attack of 2022 earlier highlighted.
ADDENDUM.
BOKO HARAM INFILTRATED JONATHAN’S CABINET IN 2012 – DID NOT MIGRATE WITH CONSECUTIVE GOVERNMENTS?
Ex-president Goodluck Jonathan in 2012, publicly stated that the extremist Boko Haram group and their sympathizers had infiltrated the Three Tiers of his government - including the armed forces, the police, and other security agencies, making the insurgency difficult to combat because it was hard to identify who was a member!
He described the situation as more complicated than the Nigerian civil war because it was hard to predict where the enemy would come from, stating, “if the person will plant a bomb behind your house, you won’t know”.
Jonathan also revealed that at some points, Boko Haram fighters possessed more weapons than the Nigerian soldiers.
Jonathan’s administration faced intense public criticism for its handling of the insurgency, with many viewing the failure to end the violence as a failure of his government.
Critics often regarded his attempts to blame foreign influence or infiltration as a way to divert attention from national failures, though he maintained that his government inherited a military that was struggling with corruption and lack of modern weapons.
NOW THAT THE UNITED STATES IS TINUBU’S MESSAIAH, PRESIDENT TRUMP SHOULD CONSIDER THE NEO-COLONIZATION OF NIGERIA!
We all know that was never going to happen!
Tinubu should sponsor an Executive Bill for A ONE-HOUSE PARLIAMENTARY SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT and save himself from an everlasting shame that will consume him suddenly!
[EXPECT A PRIME MINISTER IN NIGERIA NOW!]
